Implementation of leadership has a powerful impact on the strategic management process since it allows defining the vision and mission of the particular organization. Dess et al. state that leaders must adhere to three interdependent activities to achieve successful business outcomes, including “setting a direction, designing the organization, and nurturing a culture dedicated to excellence and ethical behavior” (332). As described by Jabbar and Hussein, leadership serves as a “link between the soul and the body of an organization” (101). However, it is a challenging process to incorporate a beneficial and adequate leadership strategy. One of the most crucial roles of leadership defined in this study is integrating human resources with the strategic management process.
Strategic leadership implies specific actions aimed at a positive influence on valid strategy enactment. They include identifying the strategic direction, establishing balanced organizational controls, efficient regulation of the resource portfolio, maintaining productive organizational culture, and, most importantly, focusing on critical ethical practices. The researchers believe that leadership should develop a culture of learning by setting a clear value system for the organization. Hence, the determined values reflect on organizational behavior and lead it in the right direction. As such, the strategic leader must recognize the significant role of values in strategy formulation and its successful implementation. Furthermore, the dedicated leader is accountable for guiding the subordinates towards performing the assigned tasks most effectively and proficiently.
