The current exhibition presents the works of two well-known artists – Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat. They are famous for their memorable street art that generally concerns socially controversial topics. This type of social commentary in their works is the primary reason they are the perfect candidates for the exhibition focusing on socially and politically sensitive areas. Moreover, Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat have drastically different backgrounds and countries of origin, yet, they have contributed to the modern art scene and, particularly, the genre of street art.
Concerning social commentary, both artists address hot topics, such as climate change, racism, gun violence, and other social and political themes. Needless to say, these subjects attract public attention, and, for this reason, I intend to incorporate the artists’ thoughts on society into this exhibit. Moreover, these topics are particularly popular among the youth and progressive audience, who, at the same time, are interested in contemporary art.
I plan to focus on two visual art styles to decide on the premiere pieces. Namely, Banksy’s works will represent the main direction of street art, such as graffiti, with a focus on symbolism and storytelling. At the same time, the exhibit will present Basquiat’s pieces primarily in the style of neo-expressionism and his more abstract works. This separation of two visual approaches will maintain a balance between the wishes of the artist’s representatives.
The catalog will open with an attention-grabbing paragraph concerning the social commentary aspect of the exhibit:
Explore the global social issues in the form of street art brought to you by two of the most well-known artists in the contemporary scene – Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The exhibit presents a variety of art styles, ranging from graffiti to neo-expressionism, to show you the rich flavor of modern art. Visually stunning pieces will offer you not only aesthetical comfort but also provide you with thought-inducing material to reflect on later.
The upcoming exhibition will become one of the most hotly debated events in the art scene due to its emphasis on social commentary and a niche visual genre. This approach will undoubtedly attract mass media attention due to the controversial stances of the artists on political and social issues. Based on the present estimations, we are likely to prepare the exhibit within three months and under the budget of $40,000,000.
