Health, safety and wellness audits are done to ensure the safety of the employees and other parties in the work area. To ensure these factors, supervisors are expected to perform routine health and safety audits with the aim of identifying and fixing problems. The success of the Coca-Cola Company is supported by the fact that it ensures the safety of its employees, visitors to the premises and the public. The safety and health of all employees is its number one priority. The safety management system adopted by the company for the safety of the employees is the “Coca-Cola safety management system” or “TCCSMS.” This system focuses on safety, health and loss prevention. This system is incorporated together with the internationally recognized system, which is OSHAS 18001(Bell, 2004).

Work Area

The work environment ensures that safety, risk and health are monitored and controlled to prevent injuries or occupational ill-health. In case an injury occurs, it is investigated and a solution is arrived at to prevent its reoccurrence. The Coca-Cola work area is kept clean and all efforts are put in place to ensure that it is organized. The tools and equipment are regularly checked to make sure that they are fully functional. Old or damaged equipment is repaired or replaced to prevent them from causing injury to the employees (Reese, 2009).

Training

The employees are given regular training to ensure employee safety by training them on how to keep safe when undertaking in the company’s activities. This training is done for new employees as well as regular refresher training for all the employees as well as other workers undertaking in the company’s activities. The company has also put in place measures that deal with problems in case they occur. One of these measures is the enforcement of first aid. The company has a guideline, which is offered in the training for first aid in case an unfortunate catastrophe occurs. All employees are expected to know the location of the first aid kit in case a problem occurs as well as what to do. Training is also focused on the use and operating of the equipment and machines (Reese, 2009).

Workers compensation and audits

Workers’ compensation insurance is also guaranteed in case one gets an injury on the job. The company has an internal audit process to ensure that all its policies on safety and health are implemented. Recognized external audit firms are also used to access the company’s’ compliance with laws, regulations, safety, and health and loss prevention.

Areas for improvement

The company should adopt a more effective safety communication channel. The employees, to air their concerns concerning safety, health and wellness should use this. The set annual objectives should be put in a way that they properly reflect the safety and health of the company employees. Workers’ compensation should also be reasonable as per the level of injury the employees’ experience. It should be able to cover the expense or loss experienced due to the injury.

Coca-Cola, as a company, will be highly rated on a health, safety and wellness audit. It has managed to ensure effective, all these three elements for the employees. It has adopted the OHSAS 18001 system, which has been very effective in ensuring it has met the safety standards. These policies and guidelines that are put in place cover the health and safety audit checklist, which focuses mainly on the workplace, tools and equipment, workers’ compensation and training. Coca-Cola has successfully ensured the health, safety and wellness of its employees (Hays, 2004).
