One of the severe medico-physiological problems of modern post-industrial society is hypodynamic, which is especially widespread among students for several reasons. These range from forced sedentary behavior during the learning process to widespread fascination with computer games and a preference for online communication over direct contact with peers. All this leads to a natural decline in physical activity and, consequently, to the emergence of the younger generation with a range of health problems, including vision impairment, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, and metabolic disorders. It raises the fair alarm of clinical and preventive medicine specialists who are interested in promoting the healthy lifestyle principles. The health of college students is at a deficient level despite their age, which requires immediate interventions to counteract the critical situation.
Health problems are common throughout the population, and college students are no exception. Numerous students have specific health problems, and, according to medical research data, the trend mentioned above is a worldwide one (Lederer et al., 2021). Moreover, a tendency towards rejuvenating all diseases has been recorded. The number of students suffering from posture disorders and poor development of skeletal musculature with simultaneous formation of excessive weight is constantly growing (Lederer et al., 2021). At the same time sports life of most students is not regular, which is often explained by the lack of free time, health problems, and lack of internal motivation to increase motor activity.
Furthermore, psychological concerns, which have only worsened since the pandemic, should not be neglected. The analysis of opinions has shown vicious habits, overload at the university, the modern pace of life and a sense of isolation cause significant harm to students’ health (Lederer et al., 2021). At the same time, there is a real opportunity to improve students’ health in current socio-economic and environmental conditions. It is manageable through introducing pedagogical health-saving technologies to preserve and develop the soundness of students and the formation of their lifestyle in physical education in all educational institutions.
Thus, college students have low physical and psychological health levels. Health issues are caused by numerous reasons, primarily a sedentary lifestyle, habits, stress, and a demanding academic schedule. The situation requires modification, and education on the culture of health should be provided. It should be based on profound knowledge and beliefs, the need to constantly take care of students’ health, equipping them with knowledge, motivation and abilities to create soundness programs.
