The role of the healthcare worker has been significantly enhanced, given the critical events occurring throughout the past year. More specifically, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of the developed and well-organized healthcare system on a global level. However, while the worldwide media outlets have explicitly been recognizing the contribution of physicians and nurse practitioners in addressing the key challenges of the pandemic, the role of pharmacists was rarely noted. In my opinion, pharmacists are at the forefront of the global healthcare situation as they provide essential medical services throughout the spread of the disease. For this reason, I chose the pharmacy field since I am highly fascinated by its critical ability to transform the life of society and considerably impact public health.
I grew up in a big family of seven children, and I am the oldest daughter. I was also the first child to finish college, which motivated me to continue my education and expand my professional background. When raised in a large family, you are determined to succeed from the early years of childhood. You should also be a constant support to your siblings and parents, given the number of related responsibilities. Therefore, I sought to enter the medical world because I am strongly desired to face all the underlying challenges and responsibilities integral to each health professional.
After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Cellular Biology, I am now willing to continue my medical practice in pharmacy school. Cell biology is considered an inherent discipline in a variety of medical fields of study, including pharmacology. It is a fundamental branch of biology with a particular focus on examining cell structure and function, cell formation and division, and the ways cells differentiate and specialize. Hence, the acquired knowledge about the general properties peculiar to most cell types and the unique elements of specialized cells helped me better comprehend cellular functioning and continue my professional practice in dermatology. I am currently working as a medical assistant for a dermatologist, which I am genuinely passionate about due to the opportunity to be actively involved in studying human skin cell culture and biology.
I am fond of science and the scientific authenticity it brings to the modern healthcare system, as well as the public health service. I believe that pharmacological science is highly underrated regarding its phenomenal role in both the community pharmacist and high-level research into medicines to treat life-threatening diseases. With my enthusiasm for cell biology and science, I aim to become a part of pharmacology to contribute to patient care in a variety of clinical settings to ensure national and public health safety. Throughout my time in pharmacy school, I will continue to expand my academic knowledge and practical skills to prepare myself for the profound challenges and dramatic variability of the global health situation.
The current pharmacological environment represents critical opportunities for cell biologists aiming to reinforce the conceptual basis of pharmacology and drug discovery. With that said, I believe myself to be a great fit for entering pharmacy school because I am a motivated student encouraged to serve societal health. I am certain that the knowledge attained in pharmacy school will help me engage in critical clinical drug-development cases to define indications, promote diagnostics, and stratify populations. I am willing to continue my education and become involved in a fascinating career path to be a part of the establishment of the new pharmacy services regarding the existing emergency climate.
