Introduction
The roles of leadership and management often need clarification as they are closely related and frequently overlap. Leadership entails motivating people to work together towards a shared goal and inspiring them to reach it. Moreover, leadership often involves setting an example, having a vision, and creating an environment that encourages innovation and growth.
Main Body
On the other hand, management is focused on the practical aspects of goal achievement, involving understanding the resources available and appropriately allocating these resources to reach a goal. These resources include directing, organizing, planning, and controlling (Kakemam et al., 2020). Management and leadership have a shared purpose in that both necessitate an obtainable target and the capacity to form a team to achieve that goal. The goal of leadership is to create a vision that inspires and creates enthusiasm in the team, while the goal of management is to ensure that the resources are effectively allocated. The team is organized and directed to reach that vision.
As a nurse leader, I can capitalize on this period of overlap to foster transformation. For example, I can create a vision for the organization that is focused on providing the highest quality of care and creating an environment of collaboration and innovation. To achieve this vision, I can set an example of excellence and create an environment encouraging creativity and risk-taking (Kakemam et al., 2020). Last but not least, I can apply my managerial abilities to make sure that the team has the resources it needs and that they are arranged and focused to support the team’s objectives.
Conclusion
In conclusion, leadership and management roles often need clarification but are distinct and interrelated. They both involve creating a vision and motivating a team to reach it; leadership focuses on inspiring and motivating the team, while management focuses on the practical aspects of goal achievement. I can use this overlap to my advantage as a nurse leader by establishing a vision, leading by example, and applying my managerial abilities to make sure that the team is well-organized and guided and that resources are distributed effectively.
