Problem

After conducting extensive research on the economic situation and the business communication aspects in India, some advantages and disadvantages of the country have been outlined. Therefore, the problem of the research proposal is offering distinct recommendations on how the company can successfully extend its business to India.

Country Overview

The initial research on the topic has shown that India is currently dominating the environment for foreign investments, leaving China in second place in the ranking (Panda, 2016, para. 1). On the negative side, there is evidence of U.S. companies being affected by the strict Indian laws and forced to leave the country without the possibility to further operate (the United States International Trade Commission, 2014, p. 5). When it comes to business ethics, Indians freely speak English, which is a plus; their business relationships are built on trust and friendly connections (RLN East Mainlands, 2004, p. 1).

It is also important to mention that the Indian business ethics are unique in the way business partners rarely say ‘no’ even if they have no time or resources to implement the deal (eDiplomat, n.d., para. 6). Furthermore, paying attention to hierarchy is crucial (IOR, n.d., para. 4). The majority of communication occurs through personal meetings and phone calls (Miller, 2014, para. 6). For instance, the graph below (Figure 1) shows that the phone subscriber base in India grows exponentially with each year:

Audience

The target audience for this report can be quite broad since the problem is wide and can affect every employee in our company. However, the primary stakeholders that will take participation in the ‘move’ to India are out management and employees that need the most information about the current business situation in the country.

Topics to Investigate

The following topics require further investigation:

  • The efforts of the Indian government targeted at managing the financial crisis in the county (Khasnabis & Chakraborty, 2014, p. 11).
  • The specifics of Indian customs of doing business, especially the fact that the Indians rarely refuse to make a deal even if they have no intention to proceed with it (World Business Culture, n.d., para. 2).
  • Indian employment situation needs an investigation to get an idea of the possible hiring of additional employees in the country. The following diagram (Figure 2) gives a rough understanding of India’s employment situation.
