Non-governmental organizations are rather numerous nowadays. Their operation is a gripping field for investigation. This paper aims to consider one of the non-governmental organization, namely the Emirates Airlines Foundation, conduct the internal and external analyses of its activities, and provide its perception in the society.
About the Emirates Airlines Foundation
The Emirates Airlines Foundation is acknowledged to be a charity organization. It is stated to provide humanitarian aid to children from poor families in different parts of the planet. It is known that the organization is patronized by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airlines and Group. The foundation struggles to increase the standard of living of needy children so as to make them feel confident in the society. The foundation does not pay attention to geographical, social and cultural barriers. Everyone who donates to the Emirates Airlines Foundation happens to help children on the globe to receive education, nutrition, treatment, and dwelling. The overall purpose which the foundation has been striving to achieve is to eradicate poverty in the countries where the Emirates Airlines have their flights (The Emirates Airlines Foundation).
Internal and External Analysis
Since this work has a purpose of conducting an internal and external analysis, it might be possible to use SWOT-analysis for this. SWOT-analysis is a method of strategic planning which is designed to single out the factors of internal and internal environment of the organization and divides them into four categories: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It is important to note that the internal factors are strengths and weaknesses, whereas the external ones are opportunities and threats. The organization can influence its internal factors. However, it cannot control the external factors. Despite this, the organization is able to use them for its benefit. Hence, strengths are defined as qualities which serve as advantages in the course of the organization’s operation. Thus, weaknesses can be considered as features which contribute to its disadvantages and make the organization vulnerable. Meanwhile, opportunities are claimed to be probable external components which tend to give additional possibilities, whereas threats happen to make it difficult for the organization to achieve the goals (Hollensen, 2015).
It is reasonable to begin with the statement that the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Emirates Airlines Foundation are connected with Emirates Group. It might be assumed that such a connection is the major strength of the organization since the airline is rather prosperous and popular among upper-class clients who are willing to donate their money to help poor children of the world. When it comes to weaknesses, the key one is that the foundation helps only in the destination where the Emirates Airlines fly. As for opportunities, it is backed up by Dubai Government, which is a great chance to fulfill the aims behind the organization. The major threat is the Emirates Airlines’ competitive companies which take away customers who might have made a donation. On the whole, the situation for the Emirates Airlines Foundation is favorable, because its strengths and opportunities look more solid than it weaknesses and threats.
Perception
It is acknowledged that the Emirates Airlines Foundation is a charity organization. It is uncommercial, which means that it does not happen to make money. It strives to help children and make their lifestyle better. The foundation does not tend to take into account the child’s location, origin or religion. It is stated to be willing to assist everyone of every sort to keep their personal dignities.
The purpose of the Emirates Airlines Foundation is claimed to be as follows: children from poor families should be helped to get to know and understand that they can attain many various goals despite not having enough money. Therefore, the foundation proves to provide different opportunities. Besides, it supplies nutrition, treatment, accommodation, and enlightenment. As a matter of fact, these are some basic things that people in developed countries tend to enjoy from the moment of their birth. However, unfortunately, there are many places on the globe where there is a dramatic shortage of these simple things. The Emirates Airlines Foundation is assumed to accentuate on assisting children who have found themselves in very severe conditions. The organization does its best let them survive and decrease the number of deaths in adverse regions.
The Emirates Airlines Foundation appears to be an organization of volunteers. They might be connected with the Emirates Group. They tend to be either employed there, or the family members of the staff, or their friends, or even the company’s customers. As it has been mentioned, the foundation operates under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airlines and Group. The organization is ruled by a board of directors which consists of senior Emirates Group management. The board is supposed to make decisions which projects will be funded and which ones will be helped by the donations which are raised from the Emirates’ personnel and clients. When it comes to projects which are carried out by the Emirates Airlines Foundation, it is necessary to point out that their locations are mainly reachable by the Emirates Airlines. It is likely to attract the company’s staff to participate on a voluntary basis. Besides, local people could get involved in the projects.
It is stated that the organization aims to supply different types of assistance, for instance, humanitarian, as well as various services for children. Besides, it strives not to incur administrative costs. There appear to be two levels of audition in The Emirates Airlines Foundation which are expected to check the use of the raised money on a regular basis. Internal audit is accepted to be performed by the Emirates Group Finance department and the Internal Audit department. Besides, external control is acknowledged to be implemented by an audit company which proves not to be a part of the Emirates Airlines Group. As a matter of fact, Dubai Government gave its approval for the establishment of the foundation. Thus, this organization was created. 95 percent of the raised money is known to be used to help children. As for the rest five percent, they are supposed to be set aside for administrative expenses.
On the whole, the foundation gets much coverage in the media. Since it has a transparent activity and governmental support, it is not criticized. Besides, it is highly appreciated in the society. Dubai people enjoy helping children in developed countries, especially in those where they happen to fly. The only criticism which is available is that the foundation does not help worldwide, but only in the destinations of the Emirates Airlines. However, this criticism could not be found substantial.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is necessary to point out that the paper has considered one of the non-governmental organizations. Based on the SWOT-analysis it is possible to admit that the Emirates Airlines Foundation appears to have its own strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and threats. Besides, its perception is rather favorable since it proves to be a charity organization of a good reputation which helps disadvantaged children on the globe.
