Internship
The term aviation logistics refers to the aerial transportation of materials and passengers from Point A to B. Aviation logistics is critical because it supports the needs of many organizations across the globe. Aviation logistics is widely used by every army in the globe. My internship gave me the opportunity to work in the army. I worked in the aviation logistics department. This report begins by giving a brief history of the United States Army. The essay also describes the roles and responsibilities completed during the period.
A Brief History of the Organization
The United States Army (USA) was established in 1775. This historical background makes it one of the oldest organizations in the country. The American Army Aviation was established in 1942. New efforts were implemented in order to promote the best logistical operations. Throughout the 1950s, the Organic Army Aviation (OAA) acquired new technologies in order to achieve its potentials. Army Aviation began to undertake new activities in logistics, procurement, and training. New responsibilities for the division emerged during the Vietnam War. This development explains why Army Aviation became the commonsensical provider of aerial services for the military.
Goals, Missions, Objectives, and Structure of the Organization
The vision of the organization has been to provide versatile, responsive, and competent forces that can produce quality results. The mission of the Army Aviation is to provide the required combat support to every American force. The organization has several objectives. For instance, the organization embraces modern technologies and ideas in order to maintain the required operational superiority. The important goal is meeting every combat requirement. The institution plans to address every obstacle by developing new logistical systems. It is also working hard to modernize its forces. It has created new strategies that can deliver quality results. The relevant authorities use modern technologies in order to achieve the best goals. Army Aviation embraces every new strategy and technology to destroy all enemies.
The military has a complex organizational structure. This structure is critical towards supporting the functions and activities of the US Army. The targeted division is headed by the Chief of Aviation Logistics. The office focuses on the acquisition of different technologies for effective logistical operations. The organization has a Logistics Manager (LM) who oversees different functions. There are several assistants who promote the best activities. New roles and functions are designed depending on the targeted goals. The flexibility of the organization’s structure produces the best goals.
My Duties and Responsibilities
Interns are required to undertake different roles and responsibilities in order to acquire the best concepts. During the period, I worked as an Assistant Logistics Specialist (ALS). This position made it easier for me to monitor the acquisition and transportation of different materials. I scheduled and dispatched different cargos. I also kept records in order to ensure every cargo was transported to the right destination. I was also expected to inspect the materials in different containers.
3This responsibility was relevant to reducing errors. I also communicated with different officials in the department. This practice ensured that everything was in place. The other responsibility was to manage resources in order to complete the required tasks. I also acquired new skills and competencies that can support my future career goals. For instance, I understood how to communicate effectively with highly-trained soldiers. I also understood how to manage different issues associated with aviation logistics.
Activities Completed During the Internship
The internship gave me an opportunity to undertake different roles. For instance, I kept records for the department. I also monitored the acquisition and distribution of different materials in the army. I collaborated with different experts in order to ensure everything was done in a professional manner. It was my duty to report any potential risk to the relevant officials. I also scheduled different cargos and containers. These activities supported the goals and objectives of the department. I also monitored the duties completed by different members of staff. I also interacted with them in order to acquire new ideas. Such duties widened my competencies in the aviation industry.
Challenges and Difficulties: Solutions
I encountered several problems throughout the period. For instance, I was unable to understand different terminologies and acronyms used in the army. I addressed this challenge by exploring the organization’s website. I was also unable to cope with the speed and accuracy required in the organization. It was necessary to work harder in order to cope with the targeted speed. I was also unable to communicate with different officials in the organization.
I handled this challenge by interacting with more people in the organization. This practice made me more confident. In conclusion, the internship equipped me with new skills that can support my future goals. I am planning to read widely in order to understand the issues and terminologies associated with the aviation industry. I will also interact with more professionals in the aviation industry. Such practices will equip me with more competencies that can make me successful. This approach will make me a successful person in this industry.
