In today’s rapidly developing world, the importance and influence of technologies on the effectiveness of management and corporate communication are increasing. Due to the growing impact of technological innovations, globalization, the internet, and social media, the approach to team management and organizations has undergone changes. The changes that technologies imply have both advantages and disadvantages, but their influence on relationship building and management operations is undeniable.
Modern technologies in integration with globalization and the development of strategic partnerships significantly influence how managers manage and lead their teams. They provide more flexibility for the employees, which means that now workers have an opportunity to work not only in the office but from any point of the world. Thus, such circumstances allow people from different origins to work in a company located far away. In addition to the impact of technology and globalization, strategic partnerships increased the diversity inside organizations. Managers are now responsible for leading team members who are scattered in different places. At first glance, it may create difficulties since it is easier to assess workers who are constantly gathered in one space. However, this could be overcome with the emergence of the internet. Messenger, e-mail, and video chats allow managers to access their team efficiently. Hence, focusing on the exploitation and implementation of the technology improves organizational performance (Fartash et al., 2018). The creation of the technological means of internal communication, such as IP messengers, made corporate communication easier and faster.
The internet, communication technologies, social media, and ubiquitous access in managing organizations might create challenges. The study conducted by Zuofa and Ochieng (2017) demonstrates that virtual working and using corresponding technologies may decrease the effectiveness of communication, create a lack of trust, and difficulties with the technology adaptation. The main reason for that is low coordination between geographical boundaries and different time zones, trust issues and poor working relationships inside the team, and inadequacies emerging from the technological systems (Zuofa & Ochieng, 2017). Moreover, such technological tools as social media may raise the question regarding ethics. Some people might see the threat in the access that technology provides to private information. Lack of confidentiality, lack of trust between employees and managers, and difficulties concerning geographical boundaries and time zones are the challenges arising from the technologies.
The concept of a geographically dispersed workforce has both advantages and disadvantages. Virtual working represents a positive effect on the progressiveness in the workplace due to the opportunity to connect people from different places, times, and organizational boundaries (Zuofa & Ochieng, 2017). It allows managers to overcome geographical boundaries when searching for talented employees and allows them to provide the organization workers with new skills, knowledge, and experience. Still, as was mentioned above, a geographically dispersed workforce does not always succeed in building a trustful relationship. Because collocated organizational teams have more opportunities to interact in real life, it is easier for them to build healthy relationships and trust each other. People working from different places use e-mail, texting, and social media for communicating, and as the study demonstrates, it may be appraised as a cause of ineffective communication (Zuofa & Ochieng, 2017). Lack of live communication and difficulties in relationship building are the disadvantages of a geographically dispersed workforce. Thus, technologies for communicating allow users to overcome distance problems and reach co-workers fast, but it creates barriers in trusteeship and affairs.
In conclusion, it should be noted that technologies have contrasting effects on the organization and management of the team. The impact of social media, communication technologies, and the globalization process have both positive and negative influences. On the one hand, operating management becomes more flexible and efficient, but on the other hand, it creates many challenges. Difficulties in building relationships between team members and problems related to ethics are problems that arise as a result of using technology. However, proper acquisition and exploitation of the technology may contribute to effectively assessing the challenges and making the team and organization management more progressive.
