History
Jon Cadoux established the Peak Organic Brewing Company in Portland, Maine, in 2005. When Jon first began home-brewing beer in college, it was more of a pleasure than a vocation. However, once it became his addiction, he knew it would become a career (Rodríguez-Vidal et al. 805). When he started experimenting with natural foods, and the results were outstanding to any other recipe he had prepared, he felt he had discovered something extraordinary. The idea that beer is enjoyed with friends and family during “peak moments” is the origin of the brewery’s name.
Headquarters and Ownership Situation
The Organic Brewing Company is headquartered in Portland, Maine, where the founding partners decided to establish the business. On the other hand, Peak Organic Brewing Company was not created by a merger and was established in 2005. Three friends privately own the Peak Organic Brewing Company, they are Jon Cadoux, Matt Abbot, and Michael Nadeau (Rodríguez-Vidal et al. 805). These three individuals are the company’s founding partners; hence they have complete control and ultimate say on the company’s direction.
Core Brands
Peak organic has two main products: a fresh-cut pilsner and an IPA (India Pale Ale). These beers can be found on tap, in bottles throughout Maine, and in several bars/restaurants in New Hampshire and Massachusetts (Rodríguez-Vidal et al. 805). Peak organic also has a line of seasonal or special-veel specialty beers. Peak Organic Brewing Company’s two most popular beers offer great flavors, consistency, and quality.
Additional brands and Other Relevant Information
The additional product or brand is Setlzer, made from the organic and sustainably grown grains of Mt. Setlzer Farm. The farms are located in Dixfield and Owls Head, both in Maine. The grains for Setlzer are grown exclusively for the brewery, and only a small amount is sent to other producers (Rodríguez-Vidal et al. 805). Peak Organic Brewing Company has been recognized for its unique, high-quality beer by many different sources and publications. In 2010, the company was listed as one of the Best Places to Work by Portland Business Journal. Peak Organic beers have won numerous awards at local competitions and are certified as an organic brewery through the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) (Rodríguez-Vidal et al. 805). The main challenges the company faces are getting the word out regarding its strong brand and working with distributors to get their beers on the shelves in Maine and New Hampshire.
