In Canon City, people are taken to prisons for different circumstances. Men are taken due to violence cases and women due to breaking the gender belief of the society. Women were expected to be submissive to their husbands wholly. However, some men were abusive, and it led to some other women fighting for their rights. Society believed in men being more superior to women. Women’s role was limited to taking care of the husband and the children. Females who exceeded these roles broke the laws and were imprisoned. Most of them were submissive since they were uneducated; also, the gender roles were instilled at a young age.

Gender imbalance has been in the past; women were inferior. They were less educated than the men in addition to exposure and use of other resources. Due to masculinity belief, men were raised to be tough and women submissive to their husbands. Women had fewer voices in society, and most decisions were made by men. In schools, girls were considered to be less performing and less involved in activities. Additionally, issues in societies were solved by the men not involving women. A man committing a crime is punished normally, but women committing crimes are intensely punished.

In the modern world, women are now empowered; they have positions in society and can air out their grievances. They are also involved in decision-making processes since they are now educated and are aware of their rights. Modern society has neglected the cultural wars of gender roles. Women have great positions in politics and are no longer inferior. In terms of resource access, the resources are equally distributed. Society has changed its attitude and perception of gender inequality. In schools, girls are competitive and are more active than boys. The issues of submissiveness have been replaced with competitions. Women are less prosecuted for cases of gender compared to the past.

The connection between the modern-day and the past is the role of a mother in families. Women have the responsibility of taking care of the family, although some are still submissive and most decisions are made by the male more than the females. The upbringing of children in the modern day is the same as in the past. Additionally, in terms of breaking the law, the punishment of the past and the modern-day is almost similar. Punishments are given depending on the type of crime committed.

Admittedly, the women of Canon City had several prominent values. They were required to be respectful and fully submit to their husbands. On the other hand, the men were expected to be courageous and aggressive. As a city, courage was shown when an individual breaks the law. The police executed their duties by showing courage for those breaking the law. Security was a prominent value, especially for those in prison. The city aimed at improving its economy by involving people in different activities. For instance, the inmates were involved in selling flowers for income and fundraising activities to maintain the museum. The main concern in the city was the gender issue rooted in the culture. Most activities and decisions were referred to the culture that made women less empowered.
