Introduction
Trafficking can be defined as the undercover or secret exchange or transfer of any thing. Trafficking can be of any thing or even it can also involve the transportation of persons. Basically this transportation involves the transfer of goods or persons in illegal ways; in other words it can be said that the aim is to perform the transportation where it is not allowed to transport. Mostly the trafficking that is common in today’s world is drug trafficking, children trafficking, women trafficking and weapons trafficking.
There are many reasons for which the trafficking has being done. The major reason is obviously for the financial benefits; as some times it is more beneficial to use goods, drugs and people from different countries or areas. Although it is beneficial but it is illegal as well so it should be avoided as much as possible. Trafficking is also being done in negative ways as there are people who do this act of human trafficking and then use the children for labor or begging or they also sell them out. Although we can’t decide which track we use to cope but it is certain. In such situations trafficking should be prohibited to the large extent. Trafficking also attracts the people in order to bring the items that are banned and also the high duties over some goods have made the people to do this illegal transportation just to avoid paying the high rates of duty.
Another reason behind that trafficking is the need of some essential elements of life can be achieved only by using this technique as people are facing very much unemployment and economical issues these days. The main objectives of trafficking are the financial benefits, avoidance of taxes and to import the items that are illegal to import. There are many ways in which the trafficking ca be performed. Even false passports are also a common method for making the trafficking possible. Hidden containers, cars, trucks, inside the body, hidden under clothes and hidden in the luggage are also some other common ways for making this transportation. (What is trafficking, 1)
Causes of Trafficking
There are few reasons for which the people are performing the unlawful, unethical and illegal act of trafficking.
- Unemployment forces the people to perform this act.
- There are some times well organized crimes that are being done by the properly managed groups of people who are used to do such crimes.
- Regional cults or religious cults also force to do such things.
- Economic issues and problems also give rise to these acts.
- Social favoritism or unfairness
- Attraction of profit
- When the Government is not sincere with the interests of the country and does not take any preventive steps.
- Political problems in the country also give rise to such issues.
- When no hard actions are taken against the people who are making this crime
- Lack of laws, policies and rules against the traffickers.
- When people are not able to fulfill their needs then they go for such activities. Either they become trafficker or the victims of traffickers.
- Growth of rate of poverty.
These are the most common issue that can be cover under the subject of trafficking. These can be changed with reference to time, environment and current situation in any country. For example human trafficking either legal or illegal could become positive or negative in different situations. Human trafficking from under developed countries to developed countries seems very positive because this human traffic cause developed countries to avail cheap labor as well as easy tracing. But in the case where both the countries are under development process these human trafficking causes a drastic impact on that country. Types of Trafficking
There are many different types of trafficking that are under observation in today’s world. Few of them are listed below:
Drug Trafficking
Drug trafficking is known as the illegal and commercial transportation of drugs or the equipments and materials that are used to produce those drugs for which the drug trafficking is being done. The governments of different countries have established the rules and laws for the prohibition of illegal drug transportation. The governments do not want to transport the drugs that are developed and produced in their own countries, illegally to some other country.
The governments just want to stop this illegal act. Efforts are being made to abolish this drug trafficking and the efforts that are being done for stopping this act are different in different countries. But after making that many efforts still it has not been controlled and according to United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention 15 percent of heroine and 30 percent of cocaine is being transported through out the world. This drug trafficking is still not under control and when it is restricted some where then it begins to rise at some other place.
Some times in some cases the doctors themselves are involved in this illegal transportation as they prescribe the medicines or substances that are of no use. This is a global crime and it takes place if the difference in price between the origin and destination is high then in order to make profit this transportation is done in secrecy so as to avoid the taxes and duties. Alcohol, tobacco, steroids, cannabis, opium, diazepam, morphine, heroine are some of the most common drugs that are being trafficked. (Niemi, 1)
Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the most common kind of smuggling that is being done today. Every day a number of women and children are kidnapped and then are being sold. They are kept as slaves, beggars or used for other wrong purposes. This is an issue that is affecting almost every country in this world. This act is against the ethics and humanity as selling the people shows that humanity is still not independent and the people are again forced to do the slavery.
The human trafficking is also leading towards the sexual misuse or abuse. The women are trafficked and are forced for prostitution and marriages. Children are trafficked and are forced to do the labor and begging. All these things make it sure that the human trafficking is not more than a kind of slavery or it can be known as modern slavery. This issue is not getting that much importance and value which it requires. (Chau, 1)
This illegal transportation or sale of people is mostly done by kidnapping, blackmailing, threat, scam and cheating. The main purpose is just to make the kidnapped people slaves and for taking hard labor from them. This act is totally inhuman and spoils the fundamental rights of a person. According to the careful analysis and observation each year one million people in which majority are women and children are being trafficked throughout the world.
Over all profit that is being made by this profession of human trafficking is about 5 billions to 9 billions. The trafficking of people is also done for removing their organs and then selling these organs on high rates. Although this cause is not very much common in first world but third world countries have this problem. The thing behind that thinking is the non availability of most medical services and no active regulation regarding organism trespass.
The children are also trafficked for using in the games like child camel jockeys. Again this factor is a little bit specific with Middle Eastern countries. Due to the effective regulation and rules these eastern countries has stopped this but still this is the main cause behind child trafficking from 3rd world countries. Another use of human trafficking can be using them for extreme religious issues and also for suicide bombing.
This approach has developed after the incident of 9/11.When several religious militant groups have adopted this approach to use this trafficked person after brain washing them for their so called religious cause. In some cases it happens that people are fascinated with other countries and want to move there and these people are observed by the traffickers and they deceive them and mislead them by taking them across the borders. These people are then used as slaves and for other wrong purposes when they are taken to other countries. But this thing is also interesting that these trafficked also have a positive impact that due to this the industry in trafficked country enjoys the benefit of cheap labor. Human trafficking has nothing positive as it just exploits the people especially the children and women.
According to estimation this kind of trafficking is mounting day by day as it is giving more profit to the trafficker. In many countries of the world special organizations have been developed to stop this illegal act. Mostly the people that are trafficked are from small and under developed areas; they are from the weakest minorities of the area. These are the people who are run away or refugees and they are in search of some thing good so the traffickers misguide them and deceive them by giving them hopes that they will get what they are looking for, like good life, luxuries, jobs and so on. Many non profit organizations, laws, organizations are set to solve this issue and they have achieved their aim to some extent but still this menace has not been eliminated completely. Weapon Trafficking
Distribution of weapons is becoming more common threat and business these days and according to the demands and revenue coming out of it; it has been estimated that it will continue for long if no strict security measures are applied to control it. Many laws and rules have been passed in order to prevent this illegal act. People illegally sell or exchange these weapons or firearms and then they cause the state to become destabilized. Pressure Groups usually adopt this weapon trafficking to generate revenues for their moments as well as to pressurize their political scenario. Now it has become so much powerful in third world regions because they are observing a high ratio of political instability.
There are different degrees of being guilty of this act. It is also known as gunrunning or smuggling of weapons. This act is very much commonly being done in the areas where there are political disorders but this is just one situation. Weapon trafficking is taking place in almost all the countries through out the world. Weapons trafficking market is gaining profits of billions of dollars. The governments are very much concerned with this illegal act as this destructive act is also affecting the peace and harmony of the world. This weapon trafficking is bringing about the culture of aggression and hostility throughout the world that is affecting the global peace keeping process. Financially strong and expert resources should be brought in front in order to stop this unlawful act. Co ordination between different non profit organizations that are working against the weapon trafficking and government should be made so that the control over this act can be established.
For controlling weapons, trafficking is necessary to maintain a strong record and then also make every single weapon a registered weapon so that the owner is known. By over viewing the today’s world when the establishment of peace is a great necessity it is important to control the distribution of weapon otherwise the crimes and terrorism would not be in a state of control. New Ideas Based on the Ideas of Philosophers
Philosophers have also given different ideas regarding the exchange of money and other materials. They have also discussed the materialistic life and its value to the people. According to Jean Baudrillard in his book “The Transparency of evil”, the world should be free of evil and the evil should be eliminated but it is not a simple task to do. There are many kinds of evils in the world today and trafficking of weapons, drugs and human for wrong purposes is also one of them. He believes that earning and collecting money by any means is not very essential as when the nations are declined then this money is of no use so by collecting the money by evil purposes does not give any benefits instead of it the evils should be removed from the country as it will increase the life time of the country. There should be a difference between the reality and the unreal things.
By dreaming for everything and then thinking that this thing should be achieved by any means is not a right way to choose. The combination of sociology, media, politics and culture should be in the mind of a person when he is taking some step and should think about the benefit of the country not only for his own benefits should be under consideration. The problems of life sometimes forces the people to do the evil things for this the government of the country should help such people so that they can lead their lives. Systems should be developed which allows the people to survive without doing any crime.
The government should eradicate the menace of unemployment so that no one is forced to do such things and this would be a great help to remove the evil deeds from the life. According to Baudrillard the world is interconnected with each other. If one evil or bad deed is removed from one place then it will be easy to control it at another place as in case of trafficking, the exchange is being done between two regions. If one region is brought under control then certainly the other will have now limited option to do the exchange with. This can be an attempt to control the rate of trafficking. The social existence should never be ignored.
If the values are given to the things that can be used for trading purposes and for gaining high profits, then the social and emotional existence of the people will be hurt. The reality should always be kept in the mind; if instead of reality other things like money, profit and so on will be our preference then our thinking will be affected. In such situation what ever bad or worst we will do with our country and reality will also be a torture for the humanity itself.
Now days the reality is being mixed up with the fantasy life and everyone is concerned just with his own interests not with the benefits of humanity. Such nations take not much time to eradicate from the map of the world and destruction would be their destination. If all these acts are continued then it is a support to devil. The misuse of women and children just for the purpose of making money is against humanity. Exchange of things that are harmful for the people is just a try to kill the nation and it should be stopped. These evils can be controlled if government and powerful bodies support and take harsh actions against such people who have no conscience. (Carnegie, 1)
Another philosopher Maurice Blanchot, who was a famous literacy and cultural critic, has also written very much about the humanity and culture. His writings are very helpful for the sense of right and wrong. His book “The space of literature” is very much towards the building up of one’s thoughts and creativity. According to him our work is directly related to our life, death, time and past as well. If we follow the theme of this book then it is clearly obvious that whatever we do we have to pay.
We should utilize our knowledge and creativity in doing positive things. If we are misusing our abilities then at last we ourselves have to pay for it as the relation of work is also with death. Today people are using their creativity and knowledge in doing wrong deeds and acts and trafficking is among one of them. It requires intelligence to perform the illegal acts and to do these things under cover so this creativity and knowledge is being wasted in performing evil deeds.
This work of Blanchot forces the readers to read it again and again and then asks him self the purpose of his deeds. This cook emphasizes that a man should not do the work that is evil or wrong or is harmful for the humanity as the work we do is closely related to our life and death and to our every act. Keeping in mind this thought of Blanchot it is really not acceptable that acts like trafficking should be continued to perform.
This piece of work by Blanchot allows us to think about what we are doing and it awakens the conscience of a person. A person should be satisfied with what he is doing and self assessment is the most powerful way to eliminate such evils from the society because if the person is true to himself then he will assess his own mistakes and lack nesses and will never be happy in doing the wrong deeds. The intelligence and creativity are the gifts from God and these gifts should never be used in wrong sense. If the intelligence is being used just for the destruction of humanity and just to ruin one’s life by making him or her a beggar, or for sex exploitation then such creativity is of no use and the person has to pay for misusing the gift of God (The space of literature, 1)
Antonin Artaud was very much close to the truth and reality. He wanted to dig out the reality of lives that the people have buried. He wanted to dig out the truths of the life. He was very much intense thinker and he never liked to have day dreams. In today’s world we human beings think that happiness is our ultimate objective and we just have to do anything just for the sake of happiness. Artaud was against this attitude and thought, he believed in reality and digging out the reality.
This thought of Artaud made the surrealists against him as the surrealists were the people who believed in the surprises and were in seek of happiness. The seeking and searching of happiness is not a wrong thing or attitude but seeking happiness by any means is obviously a wrong choice. Same was the thought of Artaud; according to him none of the acts can give the happiness that will last forever. Choosing any option and any mean just for the sake of long lasting happiness is the job of a person who thinks that the happiness or the life will never end. All these happiness and the materialistic wishes have to end at some point so it should be tried that our ways must be right and we should be satisfied by our own deeds. Virilio believes in the idea of Politics of time. It simply means that every decision should be made in accordance with time. According to virilio thoughts his theory is applicable in administrative and political affairs of any country or in broader means he applies his theory on the concept of global democracy. According to him human believe of what he sees.
That’s why he always tries to complete his strategy, starting from the invention of wheels till the development of most advanced weapons of mass destruction, human always tries to develop its society and always tried to get boosted from other sources. Virilio conveys the ideas that there is a certain factor of resistance that helps human to develop in a speedy and fast progress. This resistance factor also forces the society to adopt the rapid modifications to the society. The major discussion in this theme is the historical, philosophical and political factors that affect the human modes in sifting the balance of power and strategically warfare that the world conceived. Micheal Serres who suppose to be a talented anthropologist, historian, and possess a vast knowledge in almost every aspects and fields of life argues that it is true that the philosophical thoughts are behind every rules and regulation but in contemporary it is really hard to imagine a world regulation without any rational or logical thinking behind. Rationalism and integrity of the thought are the important element to develop thinking behind any scenario.
Human civilization needs are much more complex then general society. He also argues that philosophy of science, which applies of main society models regarding Element and their nature, can’t convert the phases of Integrity and normalization. It refers all the concerns regarding religion, society, history aesthetics, metaphysics and anthropology of real life. The important thing is how you conceived and perceive the angle that things wanted to be. Reasons of Trafficking
The trafficking is a very serious issue and it has been increasing day by day. This act is being done in almost all the countries of the world. It involves the theft all men, women, children, weapons, drugs and so on. Many people are involved in performing this shameful act for many different reasons. The major reason why people get in to this crime is that the people moves away from their family and region in the search of better life and are caught by some people who are having bad intentions and then this act is performed forcefully.
There are many people who do not want to be involved in this act but forcefully they are made to do that but some times people get agreed to do this job just for the sake of money. This can be the one reason but the reasons for trafficking can be many and can vary from each other. Unemployment, poverty, financial crises and many other economic reasons are giving rise to this problem. The rules and laws that have been established to punish the traffickers are not very much up to date and strict as well so this needs betterment and strict punishes should be introduced that can create a fear in the mind of trafficker. Conclusion
If we look at the views of all the philosophers then it can be summarized that the creativity should be used but it should not be used for the destruction of humanity rather it should be used for some thing constructive. Man should try and put hard efforts just to have a sound and healthy life but just for fulfilling his dreams he should not adopt any wrong means and ways to accomplish their goals and dreams. The sake of happiness should be in the heart and mind of people but it should not be the objective of one’s life as life has to be end one day and then these materialistic things will not be along with the people themselves.
So instead of having profits, happiness and money one should look for the realities of life. Man himself is the best judge of the doings and acts of a person. It should be analyzed that what are we doing and for what reason and by what means.
If we want to concise the word trafficking then it can be done by saying that it means any tress pass which is either legal or illegal in any aspect or in any manner regarding any subject material. If we define Trafficking then it can be defined as the transfer of any kind of object from one region to another either having some legal issues or illegal; is known as trafficking. The trafficking can be of human, can be a drug, can be weapons or can be any commodity.
The reasons behind the trafficking are the need for some specific cause. Unemployment and low wages normally motivates an individual to involve in the trafficking activity. As well as criminal activities and the benefits in the business of crimes also inspires a person to get himself involved in this kind of activities. Several other regional, religious and economical affairs also force a person to involve in trafficking activity. Social requirement and needs also play an important role in case of trafficking. Trafficking usually concerns with money. Because there is a high ratio of profit in trafficking and people normally prefer to earn high in comparatively low time.
Political conditions also affect a person to involve in any sort of trafficking activity. According to the terminologist the worst form of trafficking is the human trafficking where there are some cruel and mentally ill people involved to disguise other human and traffic them to some other regions for just the sake of some ordinary pennies. Other trafficking activities like Drug Trafficking and Weapons trafficking are also really harmful for the society because they not only affect the person but it also affects the values and trends of the society.
In this context Philosophers like Micheal Serres, Antonin Artaudand Paul Varilio has also given their thoughts and ideas and according to them the society values and their trends are much more important than their liter activities. They have criticized trafficking due to the violation of the society rules and regulations in the process of trafficking. In the end it can be said that conscience of a man should be satisfied with his deeds. Self assessment is the best policy to reduce the menace of trafficking and other such issues from the society.
