Introduction
Nowadays, society can clearly observe the extent to which media formats have transformed. Due to technological advancements, media platforms are becoming increasingly digitalized and customer-oriented. Among the most affected areas are print media, broadcast to cable, and social media platforms, which give people more opportunities to voice their concerns, influence their environment, and enjoy the diversity of services.
Media Transformation
The first way the media has transformed is from print to digital platforms. The way media organizations obtain information is changing as digital media platforms become increasingly prevalent (Jiang, 2022). In the past, newspapers and other conventional print media were the primary sources of news (Jiang, 2022). Reporters composed news articles using conventional methods (Jiang, 2022). Media professionals can currently gather information from many digital media platforms and publish news articles in digital formats, owing to advances in digital media technology (Jiang, 2022).
Another change that can be observed is the shift from broadcast to cable and satellite television. Beyond traditional broadcast networks, viewers now have access to a wider selection of channels and programs due to the growth of cable and satellite television. Now, cable channels seek specialized audiences within specific demographic groups—a technique known as narrowcasting (Campbell et al., 2021).
Previously, broadcast networks avoided content that would appeal only to a small proportion of viewers in an effort to reach the largest possible audience (Campbell et al., 2021). Finally, social media has challenged conventional media narratives, enabled people to become citizen journalists, and given voice to overlooked groups (Chao, 2023). As a result, social media and digital platforms have made it simpler for individuals and underrepresented voices to express their opinions and refute prevailing narratives.
Conclusion
In summary, print media, broadcast to cable, and social media platforms are among the most impacted. These platforms provide individuals with additional means to express their opinions, influence their surroundings, and access a wide range of services. The rise of cable and satellite television has given viewers access to a wider range of channels and shows than traditional broadcast networks. Individuals and marginalized voices now find it easier to express their thoughts and challenge popular narratives thanks to social media and digital platforms.
