I live in Kissimmee, Florida which is the 15th Congressional District of the state. The senators from Florida are Mel Martinez, who represents the Republican Party, and Bill Nelson from the Democratic Party of the USA. The district I live in is called Kissimmee, it is the capital city of the Osceola County in Florida, and it is a famous place to spent holidays, especially family ones, and to have rest. The district itself is a rather specific area where there are many problems and many opportunities. It is situated in the Eastern part of the state and is recognized as the place where people can rest and get employment opportunities in the sphere of services and tourism. As for the electoral process in Kissimmee at 2008 election for Congress, the situation look very lawful and did not display any signs of Gerrymandering, though I can not state that because I have no access to this kind of information. But I can say that the popularity of Dave Weldon in our city was great and there was no need to falsify the results (Washington Post, 2008).
As for the bills that are being promoted by the senators from our state, I can say that senator Martinez and his colleagues from the Republican Party Supported the Gas Price Reduction Act which was adopted on July, 10, 2008 in order to solve the energetic problems that are burning for the whole world nowadays. Another important legislations promoted by senators from Florida are Global AIDS Legislation, and the issue of local importance that concerns the re-establishment of the Navy at the 4th Fleet Naval Station Mayport (Martinez, 2008). Senator Nelson is also interested in the issue of energy supply for the country, as well as in such issues as kidnapping and its stopping. All the bills that are currently being promoted by senators from Florida have direct relations to every person and to me in particular. The problem of short supply of energy is rather burning and its solution predetermines the life of every citizen of our state and of the whole country. So do the health care bills and crime fighting bills. These bills concern me in a way that I also need electricity to ensure proper standard of living, need defense from crime and need proper health care standards. These very issues are of great significance for Florida members of Congress and they are listed as primary at their web sites (Nelson, 2008).
The representatives from Florida in the US Congress use their web sites to contact the electorate and solve the problems that are important to the people. For instance, the web sites of the Florida senators help the constituents in my district to get educational and employment opportunities, find dialog with the Congress and direct the senators’ attention to the issues that bother them most of all. One of the advantages of the senators’ and representatives’ official sites is the possibility to contact them by e-mail. Actually, no e-mail address is featured but the chance to send a message to the senator exists if one uses the respective section of the senator’s web site (Martinez, 2008). For example, the message I sent to senator Martinez was answered and I was satisfied with the reply.
On the whole, the sites I have visited made an impression of very informative ones while they give detailed information about the senator, his or her biography, attitudes towards certain areas in politics and present the current schedule of all bills and legislations promoted by this senator. This allows the constituent to control the work of the senator or congressional representative he or she voted for. Moreover, the sites are helpful as they provide such information as academic nominations for students, certain employment opportunities and keep the reader in the course of current political events in Senate and Congress (Ginsberg, 2007).
