It goes without saying that human nature is characterized by people’s desire to express love and be loved and cared for in return. Love may be regarded as a feeling of great interest, deep affection, or sexual desire and devotion or attachment to a person, thing, or concept based on it. There are many types of love, and every individual perceives love in his or her unique way. According to Thorkildsen, “no human being can exist without love” (Hemberg et al. 630). Thus, the purpose of this paper is to prove that love is one of the most significant feelings for people.
First of all, love is immeasurably important for a person’s physical and emotional health. Having close relationships with others on the basis of love and affection substantially improves life quality (Hemberg et al. 630). Staying connected with a beloved one helps a person release stress and anxiety, normalize blood pressure, boost the immune system, and live longer. However, one of the marvelous abilities of deep affection is pain control due to its stimulation of the brain’s partly responsible for it. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study, “married people were less likely to complain of headaches and back pain” (Rauh par. 13). In other words, love may be compared with powerful painkillers.
Love is highly beneficial for self-assessment, self-development, and personal growth. Love teaches us to understand, share, commit, care, accept, and give without expecting to receive anything in return. In other words, love helps a person to become his or her better version. Due to love, people learn to overcome their fears and be selfless, inspired, and creative. Even love-related negative experience contributes to the development of a strong character and prevents future mistakes.
Finally, love is essential for the well-being of the whole society and may even ensure its survival. According to Tillich, “love is a drive toward a unity of what is separated, and this drive may be seen both in connectedness with others and with something larger than oneself” (Hemberg et al. 630). Compassion and love unite people, and a sense of community provides society with functionality. Through love for other community members, individuals maintain peace and improve social and behavioral patterns. Due to this compassion, people are able to survive tough times, supporting each other. At the same time, the feeling of belonging to a community where humans have affection for each other has a considerable positive impact on the next generations as children are raised in an atmosphere of love.
Regardless of its object and the ways of expression, love may be defined as the most powerful feeling for all people across the globe. At the same time, its importance is impossible to overestimate as love helps not only individuals but the whole of mankind survive. It positively affects physical and mental health and may save a person in a critical situation when pain should be controlled. Without love, human personality cannot develop harmoniously, as this feeling contributes to the formation of the right principles that lead to success in life. Finally, love and affection that exist between community members unite them in challenging situations. That is why although people should learn how to love and teach others to be compassionate, it is impossible to imagine harmonious life without this feeling.
