In my opinion, popular culture is a set of life principles, values, and attitudes that are accepted and approved among the majority or a significant fracture of the society. Therefore the extent of popularity is a relative indicator that depends considerably on the context. For instance, some cultures may have worldwide popularity, whereas others may stay popular only among a small group of people. However, both cultures may be considered popular on different scales. Hence, the term popular culture includes numerous variations of culture, which may have striking similarities or be completely different and contradict each other. Moreover, in some cases, one individual may follow several popular cultures on different levels. However, on a global scale, popular cultures involve the biggest amount of people and hence are the most influential.
It may not be possible to separate culture and the environment within which it develops. These two elements are in the process of continuous interaction, which may transform both of them. For instance, popular culture is historically linked with social systems. Popular culture underwent significant changes as society transitioned from one social order to another. The current information age made popular culture more transformative and more global than ever. As the environment influences culture, globalization allowed diverse environments and events that occur all over the globe to affect popular culture, increasing the number of influential factors. Culture is pure information, making it a highly transportable asset with the help of big data and modern communications. Trends emerge and constantly disappear due to high rates of data exchange. As a consequence, popular culture can change rapidly not only within one individual but also among large social groups and even humanity as a whole.
