The Amazon Effect refers to Amazon’s expanding prominence in selling, driving out new entrants to the market while reshaping e-commerce overall. Despite its enormous popularity, it continues to increase incrementally year after year (MicroD, 2021). Because of Amazon’s lightning-fast shipping has established a more cost-effective and swifter alternative to traditional shopping (MicroD, 2021). Amazon’s turnaround times are improving, and the period between purchase verification and delivery to one’s doorstep is rapid (MicroD, 2021). Amazon has reduced 1.5 days off their delivery period in only the last two years (MicroD, 2021, par. 4). According to the public data, the company sold nearly 80 million Amazon Prime members in 2017 (MicroD, 2021, par. 4). It is uncomplicated to place an order on Amazon (MicroD, 2021). Consumers only have to be linked to their server to use their single-click order options, easy re-order options, and Dash order function (MicroD, 2021). Amazon’s web marketing has ushered in a massive shift in product selling methods, and its ripples are affecting merchants directly by setting a positive example to follow.

Additionally significant are the effects caused by such practices as employee mistreatment, negative manufacturing environmental repercussions, and a decrease in the utilization of local storefronts. The primary responsibility for this lies within the large corporations that have imposed new realities on the market and the customers who accept them (MicroD, 2021). At the heart of this phenomenon would be logical to mention consumerism – the culture of consumption (MicroD, 2021). As a result, a company’s lack of morals becomes public knowledge, and its social trust decreases, yet no one takes anything to stop the trend (MicroD, 2021). While some businesses can weather public outcry over a lack of morals by rebranding and promoting, others lose a large portion of their clientele (MicroD, 2021). Market dominance is one of the adverse effects that can be observed (MicroD, 2021). From the information presented above, one can conclude that immoral practices force small and medium-sized businesses to lose popularity and efficiency, leaving large corporations to monopolize the market.
