After the conduction of the windshield survey in Sweetwater, Florida, the observations indicated a moderate and adequate existence of critical systems and resources. Objects that were observed during the survey were the physical environment, the health and social services, the economic averages of locals, transportation, safety measures, communication channels, political and governmental facets, education, and recreation facilities. Sweetwater presented sufficient education facilities of five public schools including elementary, middle, and high schools, and four universities (City of Sweetwater, 2022). Recreational areas are also widely available, likely as a result of Sweetwater being a location for certain demographics of travelers. Similarly, transportation and safety measures were adequate for the population size of the city. The windshield survey found that web resources showed cohesive information regarding the political opportunities open to locals of Sweetwater. Communication channels seemed to be adequate but better detail is necessary to ascertain the quality of communication within the city.
The physical environment was thoroughly observed during the survey and it was determined that it was mostly urban but also provided natural spots for recreation. As such, the strengths of Sweetwater include the accessible recreational and educational facilities but lack easily available communication channels. The windshield survey of Sweetwater proved to be instrumental in determining the role a community nurse would have to exhibit. The community nurse could expand the strengths and mitigate the weaknesses of the town. First, the presence of nursing leaders in the recreation and education-focused groups within Sweetwater can maintain safety precautions and health standards in the most active areas. Second, community nurses have the capabilities to promote easier access to government resources and communication channels, especially in regard to health and wellbeing.
