It is natural for individuals to treat people differently depending on their social classes. Usually, ordinary people are treated like trash, while Very Important Persons (VIPs) receive special treatments. Indeed, such disparities exist, and I will describe a one-time life experience when some people treated me differently because they assumed that I belonged to a high-class family.
I have to admit that I come from a very humble background. Therefore, I do not expect people to treat me with the utmost respect, but it happened one day. I always feel great when I inspire young people to walk out of their wicked lifestyles and adopt some new admirable lifestyles. I had successfully influenced my two friends to join me in forming a team of inspirational talkers. Since it was during summer, few schools were in session; therefore, we opted to visit a local high school to fulfill our desires.
As soon as we stepped into the school compound, we were received with ululations, and within a matter of seconds, everything came to a standstill. People re-organized themselves, and all the lessons were halted. I saw one of the teachers ordering the student leaders to direct all the other students into the conference hall. Within no minute, we were led into a red-carpeted boardroom. We were served with very expensive soft drinks obtained from one of the most prestigious hotels in town.
The principal dismissed his clients and came to the boardroom to chat with us. I sensed that something was not right, but there was no time to discuss that. My friends and I exchanged surprise glances, but we decided to keep quiet.
After the drinks, the principal lead us to the conference hall where we were to give our motivational speeches. There was total silence in the hall, and everyone stood up when we stepped in. I noticed that all the students, teachers, some of the board members of the school, and even some of the non-teaching staff were present. Questions flocked into my mind, but I struggled to keep myself calm. One of my friends gave his part of the inspirational speech. However, I noted that the audiences were not keen on his speech. The second friend also gave his speech, and the long-awaited time finally came. The entire crowd applauded as I took the microphone.
That is when I confirmed that, indeed, they had mistaken my identity. However, there was little time to think about that, and I gave my speech. I detected some people are stealing glances at one another as I gave the speech, but I could not comprehend their thoughts. As soon as I uttered my last word, students raised their questions. That is when I realized that the entire crowd had mistaken me for the child of one of the richest ministers in the entire town. My friends and I had received the VIP treatment because they assumed that I belonged to a high-class family.
As we came out of the hall, everyone was heartbroken since the whole school had disorganized its schedule because of an ordinary boy like me. I felt sorry for them, but the issue has bothered me since then. Clearly, people discriminate against others because of their social classes. While celebrities, politicians, heads of state, and wealthy individuals obtain special treatments, ordinary people are treated like trash. I know that the incident will continue bothering me as long as I live because I come from a very humble background. Therefore, I urge individuals to try as much as possible to treat people equally regardless of their social classes.
