Math has always played an integral part in man’s life due to its ubiquitous nature. Nowadays, though the majority of people prefer to use their phones or other gadgets to calculate a problem, a person might still need skills to identify variables for the equation correctly. When thinking of a real-world situation wherein a person might need to use skills to find the answer, it might involve buying tickets at a movie theatre. For example, there is a big family that consists of ten people who ask an acquaintance to buy tickets for the children and adults to see the premiere of Doctor Strange. The tickets for adults cost $10,25, and tickets for children under the age of 10 cost $7,50. This person does know how many children are in the family. They received $91,50 but forgot to clarify the details. While not being able to reach the family, this person has to calculate how many tickets they have to buy for the adults and children.

7.5x+10.25y=91.5
x+y=10
The Solution
7.5x+10.25y=91.5
x+y=10 reverse to y=-x+10
7.5x+10.25(-x+10)=91.5
7.5x-10.25x-102.5=91.5
-2.75x=-11
x=4
y=10-4
y=6.
There are 4 tickets for children and 6 tickets for adults.
