Today Verizon is a large and successful telecommunications company with thousands of employees around the world. The growth and development of the company were not accidental, as its owners and top managers made efforts to gradually expand its activities to the territory of the entire United States and beyond. This paper will review the key changes that have allowed Verizon to become one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.

The first change that Verizon needed was the recruitment and training of culturally and racially diverse populations. The case study notes that Verizon has initially been the “rich white guys”; however, today, the company has thousands of employees with various origins, gender, and people with disabilities (“Fact sheet,” 2021). This change was necessary for two reasons. Firstly, cultural diversity is a sign of a socially responsible company that wants to survive in the market. Moreover, recruitment of people of different gender, race, religion, and origins are consequences of compliance with the law, since the refusal of such an approach is discrimination. Verizon would likely have had problems with its customers in case of discrimination against candidates if that hadn’t changed. In addition, cultural and linguistic diversity allowed Verizon to reach a wider audience all over the world. For example, Hispanic employees are necessary for the US and Latin America to provide assistance for a significant part of the population (“The history, ” 2016). As a result, this approach has brought opportunities for quality customer service and growth.

The second change was creating a comprehensive and high-quality communication infrastructure in many countries of the world. Verizon gradually expanded its activities outside the United States and used high-quality communication methods, and also built new infrastructure facilities for its work. For example, using cloud storage to share information with employees around the world was one such method (“The history, ” 2016). This change was necessary as part of a global strategy as it helped manage all business units better. However, the wireless communication structure was mostly built to satisfy customers ‘ demands and bring significant profit to the company (“The history, ” 2016). As a result, Verizon received a convenient communication system that made it possible to quickly expand the coverage area and organize work in a new country.

Furthermore, another feature that Verizon used is the desire for innovation and uniqueness. Verizon often took rather risky steps to be the first to introduce an innovation. For example, Verizon invested more than $110 billion in wireless technology and their infrastructure by 2015 (“The history, ” 2016). This change was necessary to deliver unique products and attract customers. For example, today, Verizon has wide 5G coverage, which offers the fastest internet speed for voice and video calls (Schulz, 2020). This approach attracted many private, corporative, and even governmental customers, since most local companies or Verizon’s competitors cannot offer such a quality Internet. Consequently, innovation for Verizon often means uniqueness, which increases the demand for its services.

Consequently, successful Verizon leadership consists of such components as maintaining diversity and understanding employees’ needs, efficiently managing people through technology, and focusing on innovation. The first element provides quality customer service in all countries, as well as the formation of an image of a socially responsible company. The second element brings together the company’s core business of providing quality media that Verizon uses for internal needs. The third element is aimed at the continuous development of the company, its technologies, and employees’ skills that attract customers.

In conclusion, this analysis demonstrates that the change required for global growth implies improvements in various aspects of a company’s operations. Hiring a diverse range of employees has enhanced the company’s image and expanded its service capabilities. The technical characteristics of the management have made it possible to control and direct the work of the company in many countries. At the same time, innovative technologies attracted new customers as they ensured the quality and speed of communication.
