The Five Factor Model categories

According to the five factor model, Ann Fudge can be considered to have all the positive attributes. The first factor is openness, that is why Fudge is meant to be curious and concerned with the welfare of company’s employees. She used to take her quality time to come to see the employees at their homes in order to get to know them and create a rapport and close friendship with them. She also exemplified openness categorically admitting that she needed time to spend with her family and sort out her private life.

Taking into account such factor as conscientiousness, Fudge can be considered an organized and efficient manager and leader. She knew how to motivate her employees fostering team work and creativity in the organization with the ultimate aim of meeting clients’ satisfaction. She was also organized because she knew when to push on and when to retreat, when to attend to clients and when to break and spend time with family and friends.

Extraversion is another factor, regarding which Fudge can be described as an outgoing and vibrant leader who was willing to go an extra mile to ensure the company met its goals and objectives and satisfy its clients. She ensured easy-going communication with her employees and motivated them towards doing their best. She also instituted a six sigma method to encourage creativity among the workers so as to increase productivity.

Agreeableness is the next factor in this model. According to it, Fudge could be viewed as friendly and kind. She succeeded to ensure mutual understanding with her workers and motivated them to deliver quality work. She also found time for her clients as well as her friends, family and the community at large.

Neuroticism is the last factor to consider in this factor model. Thus, we can categorize Fudge as being confident and certain of what she undertook. When she decided to pull resources to ensure that Y&R Company excelled, she was confident of her steps and plans, went for it and succeeded in reviving the company. She was also confident when she decided to leave the position of president of Kraft Foods and take a sabbatical break to have time to rejuvenate and reflect on her life (Carlos 121). Very few leaders can be willing to do that.

Factors affecting Fudge’s success

The key factors that affected Ann Fudge success were some poor coordination and management between various departments at Y & R Company. If parties opted to work in isolation, it hence affected the productivity of the organization and contributed to development of some internal wrangles and animosity within the organization, for example, between Fudge and her Creative head, Michael Patti (Brown 16). The company also lost some potential clients in the process.

Benefits of sabbatical break

The main benefit of her sabbatical break was the fact that it enabled her to rest from the hectic day to day managerial work and reflect upon her life.

It was a time to analyze and evaluate the achievements, failures and progress she had made so far.

It offered her an opportunity to refresh, realize and exercise other talents and potentials she had, but had been unable to develop because of her office work, and it was also a period to spend more time with her family.

Drawbacks of Fudge’s sabbatical break

Some of the drawbacks of her sabbatical break included difficulties that the acting manager faced trying to cope with her work and the transitional period that may have even affected other departments of the organization.

When she returns from such a long break, it will definitely take some time before she adjusts again to the on-going activities in the organization, and this may also influence the company’s productivity.
