Introduction
There is a vast number of problems that would be solved successfully if either the government or the private sector paid close attention to them. Although many people may not recognize the severity of such issues, it is essential to ensure that they are addressed and the potential adverse effects they may have on other sectors and areas are taken into consideration. For example, one such concern is the high number of homeless animals, as well as the inability of good shelters to care for all stray dogs and cats. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the external environment related to the problem and outline an internal strategy to address it.
External Environment
Although some efforts are made to reduce the number of homeless animals, this remains a widespread issue that warrants closer consideration. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (2023), “approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year” (para. 1).
Many shelters are either unethical in their practices or lack the required resources to provide the best care for stray animals. This concern leads to an increase in other problems because animals can spread infections, attack people, and pose a danger to pets. Therefore, the identified issue is related to resources, as many credible shelters lack them, and society, which contributes to the problem.
Internal Environment
Furthermore, it is crucial to choose a name for the nonprofit organization that accurately reflects its purpose. Since the company will support different animals by rescuing them, funding shelters, and raising awareness, the name “Bigger Hearts Smaller Hearts” will suit the organization perfectly. The company will adopt the following mission statement: To adhere to and promote the ethical and heartfelt treatment of animals who lack love, home, and care through services, education, funding, and sincerity.
The vision statement will be “A safe, connected, and heart-to-heart future for animals and their people.” Eventually, the following is the list of objectives that Bigger Hearts Smaller Hearts will want to achieve:
- To reduce the rates of homeless animals.
- To collaborate with trusted and credible shelters and help them address the concern.
- To find great owners for homeless animals.
- To educate the community and increase awareness about the problem.
Thus, to reduce the number of stray animals, the organization will have several teams of kind-hearted and professional persons who will establish connections with cats and dogs they meet on the streets. They will then take them to high-quality, trusted shelters with which the organization collaborates (Bockman, 2019). Secondly, the organization will utilize social media and educational campaigns to raise community awareness about the problem and its solutions (Quoquab & Mohammad, 2019). The aim will be to indicate that taking animals from shelters is better than buying them in pet shops and that getting rid of recently adopted pets is immoral.
Thirdly, financial and other support will be offered to credible shelters that can demonstrate a genuine commitment to caring for stray animals but lack the necessary resources to assist most of them. They will receive a portion of the funding that Bigger Hearts Smaller Hearts will receive from the community, and the organization will also send its personnel to assist in these shelters. To reduce the number of homeless animals, the nonprofit organization will also create online profiles for pets available for adoption and find new, trusted owners. Therefore, it is expected that the rates of homeless animals will decrease.
Conclusion
To conclude, Bigger Hearts Smaller Hearts will significantly benefit both people and animals. By providing required resources to trusted shelters, the program ensures that stray cats and dogs can be cared for and successfully placed with owners. This reduction in the homeless animal population will, in turn, lead to safer streets for individuals and a corresponding decrease in infectious diseases.
