Introduction

Bullying is a habit of misuse of power in the workplace in the sense that there is hostile communication and behavior used by the workers themselves, people tend to use bad language or even abusive language towards a co-worker, although some organizations see it as a culture and should be observed. It can either be verbally, verbal, or even physical abuse against another core worker. Bullying often involves the misuse of power. It includes behaviors that actually intimidate the worker and also humiliates him and of course, this is bad behavior that should be curbed since it undermines the writer’s dignity to work since the worker in this case is not free to work due to the assaults and humiliations imposed on the workers.

In the workplace, you find that there are usually set rules and regulations whereby some of the rules are referred to the relationship between the workers and you normally find that when these rules and regulations are broken, then you find that the relationship between the workers is weak and some who actually above tend to mistreat those lower than them and then the habit of bullying id depicted.

Bullying in the workplace may actually take a wide variety of forms which actually includes the destruction of property in the workplace, being rude to the other worker in the sense that you find that when one worker is rude at the other, then the rate of working deteriorates since these workers relationship is weak and they don’t actually corporate so at the end, you find that the rate of working actually deteriorates and at the end you find that if it was in a company, the production goes down and the company may end up closing.

Another form of bullying in the workplace is physical assault in the sense that if the workers are not at ease with each other and when the rules and regulations are not at all observed, then you find that it can lead to physical assault by the workers themselves, and this at the end may lead to the collapse of the company since when workers don’t at all corporate, then you find that there is less production at the end and this may lead to the collapse of that company. Bullying in the workplace may also include emotional harm through mistreatment, which is sometimes threatening to the workers; verbal abuse to the workers and this habit is actually bad since people have to be respected despite their backgrounds, ethnicity, gender, and age. You sometimes find that workers are mistreated due to their ethnicity. For instance, if you come from a superior community or tribe, then you tend to find that the other cultures are inferior and then at the end, you find that they tend to discriminate them, abuse them, and sometimes even can lead to 0physical harm and that’s why at every workplace, there must be rules and regulations defining then relationships between the workers.

Some examples of bullying at the workplace include blame without any sincere justification. Here you find that the workers can be blamed out of a small mistake or even false blame can be imposed on the workers just because you are not at ease with that worker. Being treated differently than the rest of the workers at the workplace. Here you may find that due to the ethnicity prevailing in many organizations, then you find that workers of a particular tribe since they tend to see themselves as being superior to the others at the workplace, tend to ignore workers from the inferior tribes. Other workers can be isolated based on their say age, gender, and ethnic groups.

Excessive monitoring can also be depicted in certain organizations. You normally find that if you are not at ease with a certain worker and you are the supervisor of that area then you find that you tend to give excessive supervision to this particular worker and of course its bad and should be stopped since people are all equal but some tend to see themselves as more equal than others. Bullying in some organizations can be seen as a culture in the sense that it exists and workers have to adhere to it or else quit the job.

This corporate bullying involves placing unreasonable expectations on the workers and if you fail to meet those expectations then may lead to one losing the job so in ordered to avoid losing your job, workers tend to meet them under unpleasant life since they are fearing losing their job. There are several areas where bullying can be highly seen and includes the following areas. (Glending, 2001)

Ethnicity

You find that workers can be discriminated against based on their tribes. Here some cultures actually tend to see themselves as being more superior to the other cultures and hence as a result, you find that they tend to look down upon these inferior cultures. Also due to the skin color, workers can also be discriminated against based on their dark complexity especially black Africans who are discriminated against may job and this habit is not really good and should be addressed and peoples culture is respected and no one culture is more superior than the other. In many of the white color jobs, you find that they have legalized workers bullying and normally to the blacks.

Workers are actually forced to work under severe conditions since they risk losing their job. You find that some corporate and institutions have legalized bullying in their workplaces so that workers can work more and increase their production. These workers are overworked and you find that they have to work according to the terms and conditions of the organization. (Connell, 2005)

Age

Workers are also discriminated against based on their age. Here regulations have to be introduced based on equality on age. Workers should not be discriminated against due to their young or old age. You tend to find that in most of the organizations they tend to encourage the older workers with experience and look down upon on the young worker and hence this should be stopped and people should be employed in respect to their qualifications and not age since in most cases you find that even the young have more qualifications than the old. Also underage, you find that they tend to be overworked since they are seen to be more energetic than the old ones.

Laws should then be put in place to ensure that workers are no longer denied jobs or even harassed because of their age and such harassment should then be reported if they occur. We live in a world of equality and non-is are seen to be superior to the other. During the age of retirement, workers should be allowed Tom to retire at the age of 65 and it’s the mandate of the employer to inform the employee of the time of retirement. Also if a worker requests to work for more years beyond the retirement age, then the employer should accept the request since the worker feels that he can still work for more years if given the chance. (Connell, 2005)

Gender

You find that in most of the organization’s workers are discriminated against based on their gender. Gender should not be a tool used to employ workers since people are seen to be the same. Workers have actually fought for equality. It is surprising to hear that most of the female workers are used as objects of sex in most of the corporations and of course it’s bad. You find that most of the women in these organizations are forced to have sex with their bosses al else they lose the job and funnily most of them find themselves misused by them since they actually fear losing their job.

Also, you also find that most of the females get most of their jobs through selling their bodies since they are requested to do so in order to secure the job. It is then the role of those in authority to ensure that if such cases are reported, then serious action is taken in order to curb the behavior. Workers should be seen as equal and no sex is more than the other. (Connell, 2005)

Effects of bullying

Workplace bullying includes physical harm to the workers. This physical harm may affect the health of the workers since when physical harm has been imposed on your body, and then you find that the health of the workers is affected. When workers have a weak relationship towards the fellow worker, or even when there are some people feeling to be much superior to the other worker, then you find that this can lead to physical harm and then the health of the workers are at risk.

Also, you normally find that if workers are stressed by the verbal abuse used on them, then the rate of working goes down since workers cannot work out of stress and this stress can actually lead to poor mental health to the workers and can eventually lead to the death of the worker if not stopped. It is the mandate of the organization to ensure that such behaviors are curbed by ensuring that there are proper rules and regulations, which have been put in place to ensure that there, is a strong relationship between the workers.

Another effect of bullying is the cost of production increases in the sense that if the workers are harmed, then you find that the medical bills are high since it’s upon the organization to ensure that the health of the workers is checked. In every organization, there are rules and regulations defining the medical care of the workers. So it’s upon the organization to ensure that the rules are observed in order to avoid these cases of bad health to the workers.

Another effect of bullying in the workplace is a reduction in the rate of production. You normally find that when the health of the workers is affected, then the cost of production goes down and the organization may end up closing. Also, you find that when the workers don’t corporate at all, then you find that less work is done leading to low output at the end and this may also lead to the collapse of the organization. (Gaze, 2006)

How to stop workplace bullying

In some countries like the United States, you find that bullying is legalized in many organizations so it is seen as a culture in most of these organizations unless it involves certain behaviors like sexual abuse, age, and ethnicity. The other forms of bullying in these organizations like verbal abuse and physical harm are encouraged in these organizations since they believe that it is through physical assault then that workers are motivated to work more since they usually fear losing their jobs and also work under tension and fear of been punished.

In order to stop these behaviors in organizations that do not tolerate bullying, then it is the role of the authority to ensure that there are laid down rules and regulations which actually govern the relationship between the workers. In case of any bullying, then the workers should report these behaviors to the authority so that action can be taken. Also when bullying has been reported, then those in authority with immediate effect should take action.

These complaints need to be taken seriously and investigation should be done until the innocent is proven guilty. People have also been supposed to hold awareness campaigns in order for the people to actually understand what bullying really means since most of the workers may not know their rights as workers not unless these people are taught. In case bullying has taken place; it is good to first investigate the extent and the nature of the bullying in order for proper measures to be taken in relation to the nature of bullying. (Blyton, and Paul, 2006)
