Program evaluation is basically an orderly approach of an individual to understand the structure of the program, its running and the outcome of the program. Then, by identifying these factors one can change them for getting better results. By identifying these career education programs each one can get the general idea of the program, its benefits and then can select the appropriate curriculum. Program evaluation is helpful in educational programs, business management etc.
“A career and technology education program shall provide competency-based, applied learning leading to both academic and occupational competencies through a coherent sequence of courses in which academic and career and technology education are integrated.” (Business Education Technology, 3, para.1).
There are mainly four components involved in a program evaluation. They are:
- Purpose of evaluation
- Explanation of the evaluation.
- Make evaluation plan and collection of data
- Analysis of the evaluation report for further improvement.
Purpose of evaluation
“The main purpose of the evaluation is to focus on the process of implementation rather than on its impact, since this would be minimal after such a short time, accessing in particular the participatory approaches used to identify project beneficiaries and the communities’ role in implementing and monitoring the project.” (Purpose of Evaluation).
Program evaluation always starts with a specific purpose. This can be done in two ways – one is by conducting general analysis and the other is by collecting data based on that specific objective. By aiming for a specific goal, evaluation becomes more perfect and will get a better outcome compared to the preceding evaluation.
Explanation of the evaluation
Collect the details required for our evaluation and make a detailed report of the collected data. Data can be collected through observation, surveys, interviews, case studies etc. After considering various aspects contained in the report, make a list based on the priority and available resources, then choose the best suitable one for getting enhanced output.
Make Evaluation plan and collection of data
For the process of evaluation, a number of data sources that deal with the evaluation goals can be used. Some of the data sources are standards and checklists of the program, data report about the public, performance measures for the program, survey about the interest and satisfaction of the students, surveys of employers of the program, information about the administrative or board reviews.
Analysis of evaluation report for further improvement
The plan for further improvement uses the information contained in the evaluation report. The program improvement plan should include the details like how the objectives for improvement will be chosen, how the action plans to achieve these objectives will be selected, how the execution of the objectives and action plans will be monitored etc.

The Business Education Evaluation will be carried out by an appropriate person with the help of an advisory team. Data will be collected based on program standard and performance and then a detailed report will be made. This report will be shown to the advisory team and other responsible authorities. Program Improvement Process
The responsible authorities will be requested to list out an action plan according to priority and consider the highest priority one and take necessary actions for improving those areas based on the report. This plan will be submitted to the principal for his approval and this report will be the base for further improvements.
