A SWOT Analysis of Government Agencies in Relation to Communicable Diseases and Chronic Illnesses
Regarding chronic and communicable diseases, there are two organizations that may be subject to analysis, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases. Both initiatives were created not only to fight diseases but also to spread the necessary information and help society and other establishments to spread awareness about various policies and strategies. Data on AHRQ and CCID was collected using online sources and data from organizations’ websites. Thus, it is possible to distinguish internal strengths within each agency in relation to its mission, which they follow and clearly fulfil. The weakness faced by each agency in relation to its mission may be the lack of research of the groups they work with. A change in legislation or the introduction of a new policy can become an external environmental threat for organizations. Regarding external opportunities available to the agency, it can be expressed in the unmet needs of consumers of agency services.
A SWOT Analysis of a Local Community Agency
Regarding the local community agency, the Department of Mental health and addiction services presents an opportunity to learn more about local mental health authorities. This initiative aims to provide “a wide range of therapeutic programs and crisis intervention services throughout the state” (“Local mental health authorities,” n.d.). The strength of this local initiative is the expansion of influence by opening several facilities in which it provides assistance to those in need. The weak side may be the difficulty in managing and ensuring the equal provision of all points that have been implemented. As for other agencies of this kind, one of the threats may be a change in legislation that may limit or narrow their activities. At the same time, an external opportunity for these local initiatives opens up in adapting to the prevailing conditions and eliminating the risk of changing policies and laws.
Recommendation of an Appropriate Disease Prevention Teaching Project
Thus, the next step is to provide a possible appropriate disease prevention teaching project that could be offered to the agency for the local community. The public health issues facing the population are becoming the spread of chronic and communicable diseases. At the same time, the latter especially strongly threaten the welfare of society, as they are becoming more widespread. In particular, it is noted that “rapidly developing microbial resistance has led to a new dimension of the threat posed by infectious disease” (“Communicable diseases,” n.d., para. 1). This is due to the spread of covid infection, which has dramatically affected the quality of public health and its ability to combat this kind of health threats.
Agencies can address the issue by, first of all, spreading information and awareness about communicable diseases. This can be done both in person with the help of trainings and conversations with specialists or with the help of online resources. Moreover, they can interact with local authorities to develop strategies and plans to limit the negative impact of diseases on society. Thus, the appropriate teaching project to develop and potentially implement should include steps to explain the type of diseases, their ways of spreading, characteristics, and methods of treatment and prevention. Moreover, an important step is to determine the target audience for which the training will be conducted. Due to the fact that the studied diseases concern all ages, this indicator will be wide enough, which necessitates the creation of a universal and understandable plan.
