Dascription of conflict
Conflict is a representation of contrasting ideas in a film and how they are achieved. In life people are very unique from each other. One’s thoughts and demands do not necessarily match those of another person. Whenever they get to pursue certain interests in life, they often follow different methods and procedures that may not be favorable to the rest. These processes in the end portray conflict of interest. This is where most artwork is spun around.conflict makes art an interesting field that tends to show real life scenes and events (Dennis 2004).
The conflict in this film is both internal and external. Internally, both the parties have an urge to overcome their boredom inn their marriages but the way they are thinking of achieving this is very different. Externally there is a lot of conflict in the means that both parties are going to exploit in meeting their objectives. Sarah and Brad are involved in a purely psychological conflict. Brad is looking for some appreciation since his wife views him as a failure and an imperfect person.
Psychologically, he does not know how to prove himself that he is still of worth to his wife. Therefore when he meets Sarah in the neighborhood, he finally has a way of proving himself that he is still of value. Sarah is a bored stay at home mother. She has is young at heart and wants to explore herself more but she does not know how till she meets Brad. The town pool has been used symbolically to show what Sarah and Brad expect to get from each other. A calm romantic and perfect life. Sarah feels that if life were to be this way, she would get to rediscover herself. She longs for something that only exists in her mind.
This conflicts with what Brad expects from her, a way of getting appreciated. The entry of Ronnie into the film has some symbolism. Ronnie, the child molester signifies that life cannot be perfect and in a way there have to be bad people or bad characters in history. This symbol has been given values and used to show conflict of thoughts. In this society, Ronnie is the only worst thing but in reality there are people whoa are cheating on their spouse and still can point a finger at Ronnie yet they are cheating.
The unconditional love that Ronnie’s mother shows towards his son is a symbol of life. It is not perfect after all and we have to learn how to protect our families. Ronnie also shows that there is a difference in life when one’s secret transgressions have not been made public. Before that happens, one feels perfect and can only point at others shortcomings. The lies, extra marital affairs are not valued as sins since they are carried out in secret. Ronnie’s life is itself a symbol that signifies the way life is.
