Lee, T. H., Yen, T. T., Chiu, N. Y., Chang, C. C., Hsu, W. Y., Chang, Y. J., & Chang, T. G. (2019). Depression is differently associated with sleep measurement in obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder.Psychiatry Research, 273, 37–41. Web.
The article considers the relationship between depression and various diseases associated with sleep disorders in more detail. The researchers conducted an experiment in which they examined how sleep disorders manifest themselves in depressed and non-depressive people. The leading theory of the study was that various concomitant causes of sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and periodic limb movement disorder, interact with a depressive state and affect the state of insomnia. The article highlighted the results that show that the combination of depression with various sleep disorders can have different effects on the condition of patients. In addition, it has been demonstrated that, unlike the non-depressed population, people with depression are more likely to have associated sleep disorders. The article provides an explanation of the fact that a depressed state of a person can have an impact on the state of breathing and overall muscle health. Consequently, it directly affects the manifestation of obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and periodic limb movement disorder in people with depression.
This article had an impact on me in the sense that it allowed me to draw attention to the relationship between depression and the accompanying diseases of sleep disorders. It was especially important to understand how their compatibility manifests itself in a state of insomnia in various groups of the population. However, it should be noted that the study did not take into account additional factors that can cause fatigue and depression, which may affect the results of the study. Nevertheless, the facts presented have validity and reliability. This allowed me to learn much more about obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and periodic limb movement disorder.
