Given the transformative events occurring throughout the last year, the issue of discrimination and harassment has proven to be the central issue in American society. However, discrimination has always existed in the limelight regarding the “ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, and racism” stereotypes (Laskowski, 2021). It was an uneven and long-standing process of massive transformation for the American public to accept the tolerant, respectful, and equal standard of living and governmental policies. Going back to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 during the times of general upheaval, the protests against the unfair treatment of people of color remain a relevant public concern in the twenty-first century. In addition, the 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act significantly enhanced workplace guidance for tolerable employer conduct (Laskowski, 2021). The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was another vital step towards dramatic changes in discrimination and harassment.
For a long time, it was a male-dominated world with adverse gender and racism biases. However, nowadays, society has to critically transform and reinforce its entire system based on what is right for each member of the American civilian population. It is important to note that a modern technology-based society is associated with an increased amount of harassment due to the prevalence of social media platforms. Moreover, it turned into a serious public concern because of the fatal consequences of such harassing behavior, including suicide, specifically among teenagers. Also, the gender bias towards females in the leading position remains an extreme case of harassment in the current professional environment, along with the LGBTQ representatives and many other related issues. With that said, one should understand that such deeply embedded societal concerns need a considerable amount of effort and time to reinforce the entire society and the internal order of the American community.
