Introduction
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a large branch of computer science that focuses on automatic thinking programs or machines that attempt to mimic human abilities to solve problems and make decisions. Against popular belief, artificial intelligence is not designed to replace humans but to make their jobs more straightforward and to enhance their own abilities. Therefore, it is crucial to establish new technologies’ positive and negative sides.
Positive Sides
Through the years, artificial intelligence has found uses in various industries, some of which constitute its advantages. In everyday life, artificial intelligence has many applications. For example, artificial intelligence, or machine learning, is used to recognize faces when taking pictures with smart devices (Taulli and Oni 45). It assists in identifying live voice chat on smart devices such as Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and even Cortana. In Google, AI provides the ability to type and respond solely by voice (Taulli and Oni 45). This is one of the best uses of artificial intelligence. More importantly, AI also provides direction and display in navigation devices, assisting in orienting oneself to an exact location.
Moreover, artificial intelligence is excellent at dealing with monotonous and repetitive activities. However, the more monotonous and routine a task is, the more likely it is that AI can provide meaningful assistance and even discover ways to perfect tasks by identifying patterns that can be adapted to achieve results (Taulli and Oni 49). In calculations and regular analytical work, AI is much stronger and indeed superior to error-free consistency and predictable repetition of a knowingly good result. Similarly, artificial intelligence systems help doctors easily and accurately diagnose diseases in medicine. Therefore, it can enable them to become more efficient and productive. For instance, AI can detect tumors in the human body, and when diagnosed, AI can also help select appropriate treatments for them (Taulli and Oni 51). Therefore, AI is used by people to reduce the tasks they have to perform and to enhance their own health.
Disadvantages
Despite the advantages of artificial intelligence, there are also disadvantages. Artificial intelligence in its current form cannot develop as a human such, which is the most fundamental difference. In some cases, object and face recognition recognizes people and objects completely wrong (Taulli and Oni 59). In the socio-political sphere, its application can manifest as a desire for total control. This is explained by the fact that the accumulation of a considerable amount of personal data about the users of computer systems leads to a restriction of personal freedoms. That is, in a situation where decisions will be made by automation, people will find themselves in the face of forces that are not subject to normal human influence (Taulli and Oni 61). Another aspect is that the use of AI can harm the economy. For instance, job losses due to automation could lead to an intense increase in unemployment, and many professions are already under threat (Taulli and Oni 67). Thus, in terms of ethical considerations, AI can be detrimental to people’s lives and activities.
Conclusion
Therefore, AI has many positive aspects, but at the same time, there are always ethical questions about AI control over humans and their displacement. Furthermore, there are also cases when AI is used in the medical field to save the lives of people or in new devices to make performing tasks easier. Although, even in these cases, some functions of gadgets were malfunctioning, and in the medical field, it is required to verify the results of machine inspection several times. Hence, from the point of view of ethical considerations, AI has both positive and negative features.
