Since there are a number of practices that increases gender inequality, the task of feminist is to identify these practices and challenge them in order to promote gender equality. With regard to health care issues, feminist theory and practice plays a crucial role in enhancing feminist perception of health care issues. Feminist approach to health
Feminist approach to health is largely based on feminist theorist and their perception of discrimination based on gender. Historically, women, children and the disabled have experienced a great deal of discrimination based on their perceived weakness. In ethical perspective, theorists in this area especially in the ethical field have had less regard to healthcare practices based on gender. Feminist bioethics has therefore played a crucial role in incorporating gender bioethics into the conventional or traditional mainstream bioethics (Aschcroft, 2007).
In this sense, bioethics which closely relates to issues affecting health is emphasized in women perspective with respect to feminist. This issue is focused on the mainstream of the medical ethics relating to bioethics in order to increase the concern of women bias in issues relating to health. Historically, Aristotle stated that women were weak in the physical realm and thus created a perception that their issues and also responsibilities were different from those of men. In this context, the work of the feminist theorist both in the medical field (health care) and those in others such as social and political fields have been geared towards improvement of women and disadvantaged groups with regard to their health concerns.
In summary, the work of feminist towards health is not linear with respect to supposition and practice or vice versa, it is rather a multi-level journeying by people in quest of improving the health of women and other disadvantaged people. More so, it can be stated that feminist approaches towards health issues have always been geared towards hidden discriminatory loopholes in the healthcare system. This has been corrected with time and even to other issues that feminists have fought over time.
