The conflict between genders has always been an urgent issue for discussion. Men attempt to understand women and vice versa; everyone wants to be heard and understood. Indeed, gender-based conflicts occur often, and it causes individuals to discuss relationships between males and females. Household and family conflicts represent frequent struggles faced by partners. The article by Gemma Hartley (2017) is an interesting text which describes the burdens of each gender, and thus, it is essential to consider in discussing a partnership.

The article is dedicated to conflicts between women’s and men’s interests. According to the author, some people think that females can ‘feel, express, and manage emotions better than men’, while males are responsible for straightforward actions (Hartley 2017: 2). Stereotypical gender vision suggests that females are emotionally loaded. Indeed, it does not necessarily mean that women can withstand conflict situations better than men. Household problems create various causes for conflicts; as the author states, men often ignore domestic responsibilities, and women have to accomplish them.

Moreover, it is feasible to note that the author emphasizes emotional labor in women; for example, females are more likely to remember important dates, events, and schedules. However, their husbands often ignore it, as men tend to consider it insignificant. Regarding the text, women seek equal partnership, bringing both individuals together. Accordingly, women can feel frustrated and saddled with household duties if they do not receive help.

Overall, the central idea of this article is the desire for equality. Many women face a lack of their husbands’ support and understanding, although females want to rely on their partners. The concept of mutual help can help me in my personal life, as it considers relationships between spouses, friends, and relatives. I can use it when I want to ensure another person feels supported and comfortable through my assistance. Taking responsibility for the happiness and comfort of the partner can significantly improve relationships and mitigate emotional load in women.
