Introduction

Human health has become pivotal in daily life experiences, with the cost of medication climbing. To avoid more expenses on medication, most people have resulted in considered employment insurance both from the national scheme or organizations they are working in. The covers are to protect them from paying huge bills which, in some cases, they might not be able to afford, thus improving their quality of life. Therefore, many organizations have resolved to seek covers suitable to their employee payment structure. Although most companies and employees consider factors such as salary, working hours, job description and other allowances, employees must scrutinize the medical insurance coverage offered by the company.

When considering healthcare insurance covers, employees must assess the available plans, companies and company choices. The company choices rangers from the people covered by the insurance, hospitals that the insurance is accepted, the amount the insurance can raise the amount deducted from the salary for the cover. Thus, an employee must consider assessing if the family is covered and the conditions set for the family and third party to be covered. The insurance details must inform the employee of the waiting period before the insurance is active. Further, an employee must assess the cost when the family is covered.

Three different options of health covers

Considering the USA systems and the current job market acts, the best medical insurances supported by the government are the affordable care act insurance, short-term health insurance and employer-based insurance. This act covers primarily ensures that they meet the minimum healthcare insurance needs. Essentially, they cover the family or part of family medical plans; thus, an employee can consider them because their family members are protected.

Affordable care act insurance

This affordable insurance coverage was signed into law in 2010 by the then-sitting president Obama also known as Obama Care. Its primary goals are to achieve affordable medical insurance cover for all citizens, expand its coverage to cover all adults who earn below 138% of the FPL and support innovation to lower medication costs. The insurance is preferred because it offers mental and maternal assessments to all family members signed by the cover holder (Franklin et al., 2021). With its structure and terms, the insurance can be affordable to all employees considering various factors such as their salary and premiums one will consider. Unlike other covers, it does not reassess the existing conditions on place waiting period for the need to be covered.

Cons

It has led to increased costs for premiums since many people have to be covered. Additionally, it covers those with preexisting conditions even though they already had insurance, thus increasing insurance costs. Since its goal is to ensure that everybody is covered, the taxes are growing since they are deducted from savings in medical payments. In some areas, it only covers the insurers with the impossibility of taking a cover outside the yearly plan.

Short-term health insurance

This medical insurance cover is valid for a short period upon the agreement between the insurer and the insured, usually months to years. Unlike Obama care, this coverage allows one to make choices on premiums (Clarós, 2021). Reduced deductions toward funding the affordable care act become economical as one can lower the premiums. Additionally, there is no enrollment period thus no waiting period because of its short term. The period allows the premium to cover the unexpected. However, this premium does not cover the preexisting conditions irrespective of the premiums. Thus, it is not suitable for all citizens and does not contribute to lowering the medical expenses for those excluded. Further, it does not offer maternal and mental health benefits as affordable care insurance.

Employer-based insurance

This insurance cover act compels employees to offer affordable and a minimum value of 95% of the permanent employees and their families. They are to cover dependents until they turn 26 years to avoid penalties. The cover benefits the employee by offering lowered premiums with no extra payments or deductions in their payments (Feng & Villamil, 2021). It ensures that the employees are covered by their families while affording essential medical health covers such as the ACA plans.

Even though it covers with no extra costs, thus favoring employees, the cover depends on the level of each employee. With this cover, employees cannot control the premiums they want and individual coverage. The cover does not distinguish the employees, so the healthier employees will all pay a similar amount. Since the cover is only limited to employees, their cover is terminated when one moves from the company or stops working.

Conclusion

To sum up, despite considering the payment and other benefits, employees must consider the health insurance issue by the company. Even when they are offered medical covers, they should assess the plans. These plans should be favorable to the employee who must ensure that his company is also covered. There are varying covers, with each having its advantages and cons. However, one should consider an offer with a better plan covering the family members. Hence the healthcare insurance plan can factor in future job searches for an employee.
