The frame of reference
The Vatican refuses to bless same-sex marriages saying that this is not in accordance with the canons of the Roman Catholic Church since marriage is a union of a man and a woman (Gjelten, 2021). Although Pope Francis has previously spoken out in support of same-sex marriage, the Vatican emphasizes that this position is not discriminatory. Minority members who enter into same-sex unions cannot receive the blessing of the Catholic Church.
Grounds for comparison
This is a controversial issue since from one point, it is unacceptable to give blessings to same-sex unions since marriage is an inextricable union of a man and a woman for the birth of a new life (The Associated Press, 2021). However, members of minorities also have the right to a family.
Thesis
The inability to give the blessing to same-sex marriages is not discrimination against sexual minorities since they can register same-sex unions in civil life.
