Key Concepts and Their Application at the Workplace
Leadership and management are commonly used as synonyms, but they are fundamentally different. Managers focus on workplace efficiency and control work, while leaders empower people to perform better and prepare for a changing business environment. Managers ensure work is done to the right quality and quantity within the given specs, while leaders have the vision to drive objectives in a turbulent market environment (Positive Revolution, 2015). The concepts can be applied in the workplace by placing leaders at the organization’s helm to set goals and vision, and placing managers at operational levels to ensure work is done in accordance with the relevant specifications.
Importance of the Concepts to Contemporary Leaders
The concepts obtained from the documentary are important as leaders will understand the difference between leadership and management and ensure that the people working under them are happy and productive. In the highly dynamic corporate domain, a leader who understands the concept will know the strategies needed to make the organization more competitive. Further, leveraging these concepts will help leaders recognize that change is inevitable for a company to remain competitive in a turbulent business environment (Positive Revolution, 2015). Consequently, they will focus on followers and how they feel inspired to improve performance in the organization. Leadership is co-created when followers feel part of the group and assist the leaders. Leadership is successful when the followers are happy with the leader; they are likely to perform better.
Focal Points Identified in the Documentary
