Gro Harlem Brundtland was the Prime Minister of Norway for three terms. Brundtland is one of the greatest leaders today. As the Prime Minister of Norway, Brundtland transformed the politics of the country and made the country prosperous (Jackson-Laufer, 2008, p. 41). She also served as the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Today, many people recognize Brundtland as a diplomat, politician, physician, and a global leader. This paper describes Gro Harlem Brundtland’s leadership style, behaviors, and traits.

Harlem Brundtland’s Leadership Traits

A good leader will exhibit the best leadership traits (Martin, 2010, p. 28). Brundtland’s leadership traits include personal confidence, involvement, and charisma. She is always optimistic, determined, inspirational, and hardworking. She portrays a sense of integrity wherever she goes.

This is evident in her leadership roles and nursing practices. Many people consider Gro Harlem Brundtland as a confident and decisive leader whose ambitions have made her successful. Such traits have made it easier for Brundtland to achieve her goals. Brundtland’s qualities have made her leadership style exemplary. She guides individual in her team by promoting cohesiveness. Such traits have made her one of the successful leaders today.

Harlem Brundtland’s Decision Style

Researchers use the Vroom-Yetton-Jago (VYJ) model to describe a person’s decision-making style (Bass, 2008, p. 72). From this model, I would argue that Brundtland’s decision-making style as purely collaborative. In most of her positions and roles, the leader works together with different people to reach a specific consensus (Jackson-Laufer, 2008, p. 59). She always facilitates her teams towards the best decision making process.

With such an approach, Brundtland succeeded as the Prime Minister of Norway. For example, she coordinated the Earth Summit held in 1982 in a proper manner. However, she always takes her stand strongly especially when handling different issues affecting humanity. Brundtland has received many honors and achievements because of her outstanding leadership style. This explains why she is outstanding today.

Harlem Brundtland’s Leadership Behaviors

Leadership behaviors are essential because they determine how a person achieves his/her goals. Some of the behaviors exhibited by Brundtland include being involved and supportive. In her leadership roles, Brundtland brings different people together in order to make the best decisions. Brundtland is also a risk taker. This behavior has helped her achieve most of her goals. She is always focused and decisive.

She uses such behaviors understand her current situation and decide what she wants to achieve in the future (Jackson-Laufer, 2008, p. 73). She has always stood firm during challenges and crises. She is also an exceptional communicator thus remaining one of the admirable women leaders today. With such behaviors, Brundtland has been supportive thus maintaining the best interpersonal relationships. Considerate and friendly leaders usually achieve the best results (Certo, C & Certo, T 2011, p. 49).

Harlem Brundtland’s Leadership Style

Brundtland is a physician by profession. This explains why she exhibits a transformational leadership style. The leader is always enthusiastic and passionate about her roles work. She inspires new changes and encourages people to only the best. She is always ‘involved’ in every activity and process.

That being the case, I would argue that Brundtland is a transformational leader because of her passion to influence others. She encourages her followers to work hard in order achieve their goals. She understands how to take care of every situation and energize people. The leadership style has helped her achieve most of her goals as an outstanding leader and politician.
