I think that the application of AI for security reasons is a common and concerning practice that affects labor and consumer markets. Law enforcement and businesses mainly employ AI for facial recognition and other purposes. This brings up concerns about the effect of AI on privacy, society, and security. I know that there are problems with discrimination, privacy violations, and data breaches, which could harm stakeholders like consumers, employees, and government officials. This primarily happens in the US, and Canada may follow the same path. The misapplication of AI for security reasons can cause negative effects on stakeholders, such as privacy violations and discrimination. The government and society are the most affected since AI is a threat to national security and social harmony. Thus, regulating the use of AI for security purposes is crucial to prevent harm to stakeholders and establish a safe and fair society.

Issue Discussion

In my view, the increasing use of AI in companies and law enforcement is a source of concern. Its early adoption can be seen in China and the US. I understand that China presents an example of what can occur when AI violates privacy and human rights (Gravett, 2022). With the Sharp Eyes program, AI can identify anyone on cameras (McGowran, 2022). It combines online purchases, travel records, and social media activity with a police cloud to monitor those considered delinquent. I consider it a legal and moral issue since AI regulation by police and companies is still evolving. It is crucial to protect privacy and safety against malicious individuals who may exploit information for malicious activities like identity theft or financial fraud.

Perspectives Discussion and Generation of Solutions and Alternatives

I strongly believe that in order to address the issue of AI for security purposes, it is crucial for governments, markets, and organizations to work together to develop ethical guidelines and best practices for the use of AI. My view is that from the governments’ perspective, they have a crucial role in regulating the use of AI for security purposes. I believe that regulations need to be put in place to ensure that the use of AI is transparent and that any potential privacy or security risks are mitigated (Chin & Lee, 2022). Furthermore, I think that governments can work towards creating a framework for the ethical use of AI for security purposes. I am of the opinion that from the perspective of the markets, businesses using AI for security purposes have a responsibility to ensure that they are using AI in a way that does not harm stakeholders. Companies that use AI should be held accountable for any privacy or security breaches that occur due to their use of AI (Gülen, 2023; Tuck, 2022). I believe that they should be transparent about how they are using AI and the potential risks associated with it.

Collaborative efforts among governments, organizations, and markets are imperative to establish ethical guidelines and best practices for AI’s application in security measures. From the perspective of governments, they must regulate AI for security purposes by introducing transparent and effective measures that mitigate potential security or privacy breaches (Chin & Lee, 2022). In addition, governments must devise a framework for the ethical usage of AI in security measures.

From the perspective of businesses, the ones that are utilizing AI for security purposes must assume responsibility for ensuring that AI does not adversely affect stakeholders as well. Companies must be held accountable for any privacy or security breaches arising from AI usage and should be transparent about its applications and risks (Gülen, 2023; Tuck, 2022). Therefore, it is vital to establish a collaborative approach between governments, markets, and organizations to ensure the ethical application of AI in security measures. Governments must regulate the use of AI for security purposes, while companies must be held accountable for any negative effects resulting from their usage of AI. Transparency regarding AI applications and risks is crucial as well.

Non-governmental organizations and academic institutions can play a crucial role in developing ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security practices, according to organizations’ perspectives. These entities can educate the public about the potential risks associated with AI and the best ways to mitigate them. In order to address the issue of AI for security purposes, I propose three potential solutions. Firstly, an international treaty or agreement that outlines ethical AI usage for security purposes can be established. Secondly, a certification program could be created for companies that utilize AI for security measures, ensuring that they are using it in a transparent and ethical manner. Thirdly, an independent regulatory body can be formed to monitor and enforce compliance with ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures. Therefore, creating ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures necessitates cooperation among all stakeholders. Therefore, organizations, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions can contribute by educating the public, and an international treaty or agreement, certification program, or regulatory body can be established to ensure the ethical usage of AI in security measures.

Policy

The most effective policy solution to address the issue of AI for security purposes, in my opinion, is to create an international treaty or agreement. This policy will establish ethical guidelines and best practices for the use of AI and will be binding for all signatory countries. The policy supports the concept of competition and transparency in capitalism (Gülen, 2023). The policy’s target audience includes governments, businesses, and other organizations that use AI for security purposes, ensuring that the use of AI is regulated in a consistent and ethical manner globally (Henriquez, 2022). The expected outcomes of this policy are increased accountability and transparency in AI usage, better privacy and security protection for individuals, and a reduction in potential harms caused by AI misuse for security purposes. In other words, an international treaty or agreement is a highly effective policy solution that sets ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures. It is applicable globally and will benefit all stakeholders, including individuals, businesses, and governments, by ensuring ethical and transparent AI usage.

In my view, the international treaty or agreement is more effective than current policies and alternatives as it considers the perspectives and concerns of all stakeholders involved, including governments, businesses, and other organizations. It provides clear ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures that safeguard privacy, security, and society. Nonetheless, I recognize that there may be resistance to this policy from some governments or businesses who might oppose being bound by international regulations or guidelines. There may be apprehensions about the practicality and enforceability of the policy. Despite the potential challenges, creating an international treaty or agreement remains the most effective policy solution to address the issue of AI for security purposes. It ensures that ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures are established and stakeholders are held accountable, leading to a safer and more secure use of AI.

One of the potential unintended consequences of implementing this policy could be increased costs for businesses that use AI for security purposes, as they may need to invest in new technologies or processes to comply with the ethical guidelines and best practices outlined in the policy. The policy’s success can be measured through monitoring compliance by governments, businesses, and other organizations that use AI for security purposes (Henriquez, 2022). Measurable success can be achieved through a reduction in privacy and security breaches and other negative consequences associated with the misuse of AI for security purposes. An alternative and less demanding potential policy solution could be to mandate businesses and law enforcement agencies to undergo mandatory AI ethics training and certification programs to ensure they use AI in an ethical and responsible manner. However, this alternative policy solution may not be as effective as an international treaty or agreement in regulating AI usage on a global scale.

In conclusion, creating an international treaty or agreement that outlines ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage in security measures is a necessary and effective policy solution. The policy provides clear ethical guidelines and best practices for AI usage that safeguard privacy, security, and society. Despite potential costs for businesses, the policy’s success can be measured through monitoring compliance by stakeholders and the reduction of negative consequences associated with the misuse of AI for security purposes.
