Introduction

Effective leadership strategies are integral since they enhance individual interactions in a clinical setting by fostering understanding, collaboration, and accountability. Exemplars of leadership include managing versus leading which are distinct approaches, one with aversive consequences and the other with benefits. Management entails controlling a specific group of people while leading is influencing through admirable actions (Seljemo et al., 2020). Therefore, leadership strategies such as transformational systems can help promote better governance and establish interpersonal engagement (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Techniques such as active listening and commitment are essential In promoting better leadership and collaboration. This presentation delves into critical concepts in nursing practice, including leadership and cooperation, and how ineffective governance strategies, such as controlling people reduce inclusive engagements.

Identification of the Leadership Concept

Managers in nursing must possess adequate skills to be effective in their governance. These leaders must set good examples for their staff by showcasing evidence-based practice, poise under pressure, optimism, and high intelligence. All these qualities align with transformational leadership, which focuses on mentorship by setting standards (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). However, some issues can affect the efficacy of a leadership strategy, including a controlling attitude adopted by leaders who appreciate the managing approach. This style is whereby the leader controls a group to achieve an objective (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). This type of leadership attracts rebellion and reduces collaboration considering that the team must follow specific guidelines without fail. Poor communication from a disconnected leadership system could result in irrational decision-making since there is no room for peer consultation. The unreliable system of governance derails processes by increasing conflicts, reducing motivation, and poor satisfaction, which results in low productivity.

Appraisal of Leadership Course Exemplars

Effective leadership steers proper engagement among people involved in a specific working environment. The reason is that leadership can either be about management or leading people. Managing is similar to dictatorship, whereby the leader’s decisions are the final authority. However, leading a group of people involves mentorship or optimizing a team to achieve maximum potential and promote engagement (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Additionally, conflict management is a must-have competency among influential leaders since it enhances interpersonal understanding and collaboration. Leaders skilled in conflict management are in a better position to provide guidance and direction toward resolving conflicts (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). One characteristic typical of leaders is the ability to clear up confusion when it arises through strategic interventions such as reconciliation to maintain productivity.

Identification of Collaboration/Interpersonal Conflicts

Collaboration is a situation whereby teams work together to achieve a common objective. Inclusive engagements increase efficiency considering that people work together complementing each other’s effort and this steers motivation and productivity (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). This practice helps to reduce errors since it eliminates issues such as burnout which can promote irrational approaches. However, there are various issues that affect collaboration and promote interpersonal conflict such as disengagement in the workplace. This is a situation whereby everyone works alone without consulting or requesting peer review or support (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). Such behaviors result in poor interpersonal relationships whereby individuals find it difficult to relate well with one another. Additionally, disengagement can be due to exclusive systems such as in a dictatorship system whereby the leader has the final say. In such environments, employees feel belittled and this results in withdrawal and disengagement.

Appraisal of Collaboration/Interpersonal violence to Couse Exemplar

Collaboration in the workforce is a valuable practice that ensures tasks are completed within the set deadlines. However, when interpersonal engagement is inhibited through conflicts or interpersonal violence, it reduces the quality of services by increasing the prevalence of medical errors. Incivility includes when employees make derogatory comments that are demeaning to others and can be a contributing factor in the escalation of confrontations (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). This behavior can cause a toxic environment that also contributes to interpersonal violence. Another issue is that when employees avoid one another due to a lack of inclusive engagement, it may result in dismissive reactions such as avoidance, skipping greetings, and social exclusion, which is dangerous for a demanding work environment (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). Therefore effective leadership can establish better engagement in the workplace to avoid incivility and errors.

Impact on the Nurses’ Need to Use of High-Level Clinical Judgment

Leadership is integral for proper decision-making since it steers evidence-based approaches. Effective leadership must propose or implement viable interventions known to work to help with processes such as advocacy for patients and employees (Seljemo et al., 2020). Such practices help establish a positive organizational culture, such as collective engagement, to promote better practices. Collaboration is also an essential component that can be achieved through high-level clinical judgments (Seljemo et al., 2020). Therefore, nurses must establish effective communication strategies that reduce misinterpretation of information to avoid misunderstandings. The reason is that effective decision-making practices help nurses foster a positive work culture to develop better working practices.

Emerging Health Initiatives in Leadership

The future leadership strategies will not be about managing but mentorship. This new leadership approach will accommodate flatter structures which imply that all employees have shared authority and decision-making powers (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Organizations that have a lower level of bureaucracy and a higher level of employee engagement also tend to make better judgments and implement changes more. The initiatives will also strive to achieve diversity for gender balance and ethnic and religious considerations (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Having a more diverse workforce boosts morale and motivates workers to strive for greater productivity and efficiency. Additionally, the new focus will be on soft skills such as integrity, communication, and selfless practices. Such competencies will define whether a leadership strategy is effective or not (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). For instance, an effective leader must show excellence in decision-making, excellent communication, and organizational justice to show their leadership competency.

Trends supporting collaboration include promoting team-building initiatives and reducing interpersonal conflicts. For instance, organizing retreats can be a strategy to enhance cohesion and help employees resolve their disputes. This practice helps strengthen unity and promote collaboration due to reduced interpersonal conflicts (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Another initiative is inspiring creativity and innovation by supporting new ideas and rationales given by employees. Leaders must consider insights provided by the employees concerning organizational processes and make the necessary amends to promote cohesion (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). When employees’ views are considered, collaboration and effective engagement motivate them to work towards the organizational goals. Additionally, aligning the team with the organizational goals, missions, and objectives helps steer cohesive engagement (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). For instance, when employees realize the company’s objectives, they become aligned with processes that sponsor growth, which drives effective collaboration. This organizational behavior is integral in promoting team engagement and understanding.

Three strategies to advance workplace communication include active listening, establishing rapport to avoid misinterpretation of gestures, and avoiding assumptions. To practice active listening, one must pay close attention to the speaker, process what they are saying, consider how to reply, and remember what was said. This consideration helps avoid misinterpretation of information which can result in conflicts. Another strategy is establishing rapport by building work relationships to develop trust (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). Showing concern for employee welfare is one strategy that enables people to form lasting relationships that promote effective communication. This practice allows individuals to share their concerns or likes which helps avoid misinterpretation of non-verbal communication including gestures (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). Additionally, a leader should avoid making assumptions considering that it damages the capacity to relate with others due to preconceived notions (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). People who hold opposing beliefs withdraw from engaging with one another, making leadership difficult and collaboration impossible.

Conclusion

Leadership and collaboration are essential concepts in healthcare since they establish collective interactions that are useful in promoting better organizational processes. These two concepts are also important since they promote better clinical judgment considering that they promote evidence-based decision-making. For instance, a leader must choose options that are viable or have worked before to avoid issues of subjective operations. Similarly, collaboration enables teams to engage in in-depth discussions and processes, enhancing organizational processes. All these concepts rely on effective communication strategies to enhance viability. Examples of practical communication skills include active listening, avoiding assumptions, and developing relationships to establish better understanding. Therefore, leaders must implement effective leadership and collaboration strategies to enhance employee engagement.
