Purpose of the Program
The main rationale of the project is to avoid the occurrence of the painful IV sticks among kids. Close to four-fifths of children who seek medical assistance in healthcare facilities dread being attacked by sticks (Kowalski & Rosdahl, 2008). As a result, they may end up developing a lifetime fear for IV sticks. Pain prevention is also another aim of the program. If the program is well implemented, it will minimize instances of pain infliction to children by clinicians. If pain can be avoided for children between the ages of three and ten, the project will guarantee the best treatment program that will also enhance a positive attitude in regards to medical care. Through the project, clinicians deployed in health facilities will be in a position to offer the best care services to their young patients bearing in mind that they will have gained better understanding on how IV sticks can be prevented or treated without inflicting a lot of pain (Myers & Gulanick, 2011). A natural pain relief strategy will also be established by the program among kids receiving care. The acute pain that is usually transferred by the nervous system can be reduced by the natural pain relief therapy.
In addition, medical pain relief method will be used by clinicians to avoid the painful experience associated with IV sticks only after the program has been implemented. Hence, clinicians will gain additional knowledge on pain management after going through the program. Besides, other devices such as Buzzy will be established by the program for the sole purpose of lowering pain (Myers & Gulanick, 2011).
Target Population
The targeted groups include guardians, parents, children between the ages of three and ten and most importantly, medical practitioners (Myers & Gulanick, 2011). Through the project, adequate know-how on the prevention of IV sticks will be gained by clinicians and that explains why they are a major target group. Parents also need to be sensitized on the health impacts of IV sticks. This will be achieved through campaign rallies. Children within the given age group are targeted because they will be the prime recipients of the treatment plan (Kowalski & Rosdahl, 2008).
Medical schools are also a target population since they will be required to teach their students how to handle IV sticks among children. Aspects such as the management of IV sticks phobia among children, effects of IV sticks, prevention of IV sticks will be included in the curriculum for medicals schools (Rathmell, Wu, Turk, Argoff, & Hurley, 2014).
Benefits of the Program
The entire community including children, parents, and clinicians will indeed be the key beneficiaries of the program. Subsequent procedures that take place during pain management for IV sticks may culminate into long term side effects for children receiving treatment. Future procedures may also be difficult to execute owing to the perceived pains by patients. According to Myers and Gulanick (2011), the project will make sure that healthcare recipients do not develop negative memory after undergoing treatment. This will be a major benefit of the program since similar future procedures will be carried out with a lot of ease. In addition, the program will work towards eliminating any possibilities of IV sticks phobia that may hinder both the present and future treatment plans (Rathmell et al., 2014).
Cost or Budget Justification
Since the finances required will be utilized to promote medical care for children vulnerable of painful sticks, the project can be considered to be cost effective. Moreover, a major return on investment is expected from the program because several children affected by the ailment will have to seem medical assistance. Miscellaneous operations, materials, wages and transport will be covered in the budget. Official transportation of both members of staff and other goods will be required during the implementation of the program. Moreover, allowances, food, wages and accommodation facilities will be required by officials carrying out campaigns and sensitization of the public. It is also vital to mention that purchases will have to be made for materials need to avoid pain. For instance, the program will require Buzzy and hence will have to be bought (Myers & Gulanick, 2011).
A total of $ 15,000 will be required by the program in order to run it effectively and successfully as indicated in the budget breakdown below:
Basis of Program Evaluation
The prevention of IV stick pain among kids will be attained through a number of psychological approaches, natural methods, and technological application. As part and parcel of the evaluation process, the project will strictly adhere to requirements put forward by the medical regulatory bodies (Rathmell et al., 2014). In addition, the stipulated medical laws, procedures, guidelines and ethics for respective states will be followed. Finally, performance measurement will be carried out on the project on a regular basis in order to establish whether the set objectives are being met.
