Introduction
Nowadays, the issue of abortion concerns many individuals in society. This matter enrages people who consider abortion illegal since they believe that women should not have the right to kill a child because it is a living organism. Meanwhile, others perceive this act as a fundamental right to have a choice when it comes to one’s body. Thus, such a controversial topic deserves more attention since it involves moral and Constitutional aspects.
Abortion as a controversial topic
According to the news outlets, the situation has become aggravated due to the laws that have been enacted. During Trump’s presidency, laws on abortion became stricter. For example, the New York Times provides data on the abortion laws in the United States, stating that abortion is banned in six states, including Arizona, Idaho, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Florida, and Wyoming (Kasakove). However, though 30% wish the policies were milder, 20% want the regulations to be even stricter (Saad). Additionally, NBC News illuminates the fact that such a procedure is illegal in 24 countries and cannot be performed under any circumstances (Elbaum and Chiwaya). As a result, this proves that a significant number of people still support abortions, and in many countries, there are policies that either restrict or ban the given procedure.
When it comes to the difference between my opinion and the status quo, I believe that abortions cannot be considered a form of homicide and cannot be persecuted. Considering that Roe v. Wade is incorporated in most states, some states believe abortion to be a felony. Moreover, there are states that have specific restrictions regarding the stage when the pregnancy can be terminated, which is limited to several weeks. My view on this differs since I believe that such time limits are not enough, and women should have the choice to do with their bodies what they want, and they cannot be punished for their decisions.
This issue interests me for several reasons that, include freedom of action and the overall health and well-being of the community. I see the right to have an abortion as a fundamental right that should be protected by the Constitution. People should have complete autonomy over their bodies, and putting restrictions on related decisions should be recognized as a violation of one’s rights. Furthermore, I believe that inability to receive such healthcare services will only lead to higher mortality rates or poverty. In this case, women will either seek help from non-professionals or keep the child, which can be financially burdensome, leading to more child poverty. As for the aspects, I would like to know more about, these include the safety of abortions and policies or programs aimed at preventing unplanned pregnancies.
Conclusion
Hence, the subject of abortion proves to be controversial since it revolves around the ethical and constitutional aspects. While there is a group of people who are “pro-choice,” and they believe that abortion policies should be less intense, others consider such a procedure a homicide and claim that policies should be stricter. My views and status quo vary on the definition of homicide and pregnancy termination time limits. As for the importance of the given topic, I believe that it is interesting to consider from the perspective of human rights and the impact on community health and well-being. In this case, analyzing such factors as the safety of abortions and policies or programs that target preventing unplanned pregnancies is vital.
