The introduction of technology into the organizational structure of educational institutions and financial management systems is a topical issue, which is examined in many scholarly articles and books. Škrinjarić & Bowen (2014) argue that in the digital age, mobile and Internet technologies are essential parts of many processes. A number of teaching and learning services in educational institutions are also provided by means of electronic devices. When financial aid is concerned, scientific sources state that innovation also finds its way into such services making them more convenient. According to Bar and McClellan (2010), technology can serve as a good tool that simplifies the processes of providing financial services, management, and administration.
One of the factors that can hinder the quality of services provided to students by higher educational institutions is a bureaucratic organizational structure (Labib, El-Araby & Adel 2007). Therefore, the introduction of technology that can help improve the speed and simplicity of service provision could greatly advance administrative and management practices. The discovered scientific sources could also provide assistance in evaluating the impact of the Smart Financial Aid application. Moreover, they can help establish a theoretical basis for the introduction of such technology into other educational institutions. For example, Sarkar (2012) states that information and communication technologies provide a solid ground for development and optimization in multiple spheres within the higher education system. Overall, the chosen sources apply well to the topic of the current research project and provide excellent informational support on finances, technology, and higher education.
