Introduction

A plethora of mental health specialists suggest that bullying is the unwelcome physical or verbal assault that is continued over time and involves a power imbalance and attempts to isolate an individual from a group. The aggressor frequently abuses the victim’s lower social standing to gain control of the situation and cause harm, which is another characteristic of the phenomenon. Below, the essence of bullying will be explored, as well as the fact that it is a pressing issue that hinders the development of healthy societal relations.

Discussion

Bullying is typically associated with incidents between students in schools. However, violent actions, including verbal abuse, undermining the victim’s employment or working relationships, or abusing power, can also happen at work. 60% of the time, adult bullies who exhibit these characteristics are male (Faris et al., 2022). Men who bully often victimize people of both sexes equally; still, in many cases, female bullies target other females.

Having a poor grasp of social or emotional relationships, a propensity for becoming angry quickly, or already experiencing anxiety or melancholy are risk factors for becoming a victim of bullying. The victim’s observed or actual weight is another risk factor. Being bullied has a tangential relationship with getting underweight. Youth who belong to sexual minorities experience bullying more frequently than their heterosexual peers. Children who are immigrants, have impairments or are members of high-achieving groups are more likely to be bullied.

Conclusion

Thus, it was shown that bullying has many manifestations, and it should be considered a severe problem for society. It is essential to take into account the mentioned risk factors and develop appropriate policies to avert any bullying-related issues. This is to be done at all levels – starting from schools and ending with workplaces.
