The psychosocial assessment is a procedure used by nurses to establish if the patient is in a condition of mental health or mental illness. In the current essay, the importance of psychosocial assessments will be discussed, and how it helps to deliver a holistic response to meeting a family’s needs will be demonstrated. Moreover, protective factors with a strength-based approach will be explored.
Many scholars have discussed the role of psychosocial assessments. According to Chouliara et al. (2017), the assessment is vital as it provides medical workers with information on a patient’s mental health and, thus, can help handle the diagnosis. The importance of psychosocial assessment is also proven by the fact that different health-related conditions seriously affect people’s mental health (Chouliara et al., 2017).
As psychosocial assessment is often undertaken while palliative care or serious illnesses, it is especially important to pay attention to a patient’s emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs (Care Search, 2019). In such cases, psychological support is an essential part of the overall treatment.
It should be stated that PA can positively impact relationships within families. It is done through observations, interviews, self-reports, and review of family history (Science Direct, n. d.). Furthermore, it is vital to mention protective factors with a strength-based approach. The factors positively influence the mental health of a person helping him or her to be resilient in difficult situations. Factors that are under the control of a person include social support, coping skills, physical health, a sense of purpose, self-esteem, and healthy thinking.
In conclusion, it should be mentioned that the present paper addressed the importance of psychosocial assessments. Further, it focused on why it is essential and how it can benefit family relationships. Lastly, protective factors with a strength-based approach were presented and discussed.
