New studies detail the consequences of our overuse of plastic, but there are fairly simple ways to reduce our personal plastic waste. Byapti (2017) estimates that 280 million tons of produced plastic end up in landfills or oceans yearly, which means this issue requires involvement from all people around the world (para. 1). To begin with, stop buying or taking free plastic shopping bags at the checkout counter. It is recommended to bring one’s bag made of cotton or other reusable materials when shopping. Also, it is advisable to stop using disposable beverage cups because most paper or plastic cups are non-reusable and non-biodegradable. Additionally, it is possible to buy and use a reusable water bottle. When going to the gym, people can bring their thermoses or reusable bottles instead of buying plastic water bottles that are later thrown into the trash can and pollute local or regional water sources. Using the mentioned tips, people will be able to reduce the circulation of plastic in their lives.
