Introduction
Sometimes people choose military service as their life’s work. There are different reasons for this choice, from financial to service by vocation. However, it is worth noting that service in the armed forces represents a special kind of life that has its nuances and consequences. Man is immersed in another environment that is unlike everyday civilian life.
Discussion
In military service, its rules must be strictly observed. It makes transitioning from military service to civilian life difficult for people who have decided to leave the military after an extended stay in it. Nevertheless, with proper training and the implementation of vocational training within the deadlines of military service, it is possible to prepare a person for a return to civilian life.
It should be noted that a person loses contact with the civilian world during service in the armed forces. It may be difficult when one decides to leave the service and enter the regular civilian profession. However, there are programs integrated into the military that prepare a person for this. An example of such a program for servicemen is SkillBridge. According to Johnston (2021), “You can use the DoD SkillBridge program if you are within 180 days of transition” (p. 51). It is important to note that during the SkillBridge program, the person receives a salary as a soldier. The program allows the use of part-time work in the service to gain experience for the future profession.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is necessary to underline that, while it is not easy to return to the civilian profession, it is still possible. Programs like the SkillBridge described in this paper can allow a military employee to prepare for the future profession in advance. With a sufficient number of days – 180, the serviceman will be able to acquire the necessary skills and become in demand in the labor market of the future profession.
