The modern world is experiencing a rise in mobile applications; apps are now integrated into many aspects of everyday life, including transportation, communication, and entertainment. The story of Uber’s development includes many interesting points starting from the technology-centered business model to innovative principles of utilizing the transportation services supply and demand. My decision to choose Uber for the project was based on the company’s reputation as an innovative tech company that, at the same time, provides transportation services and prioritizes customers’ comfort and safety.
In the last few years, Uber significantly expanded through the increased number of countries of the presence and the range of provided services. Uber’s expansion to delivery services presented a smart decision as the company already had the necessary resources in the form of the drivers base and the customer audience of Uber app users. Furthermore, when the number of rides significantly decreased during the pandemic, delivery services supported the population left without the opportunity to earn money due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, according to Curry (2022), the delivery services division gradually became bigger than the original Uber’s mobility division. While the mobility division is struggling to return to pre-epidemic levels, the delivery services division makes an equal amount of revenue as the mobility division before the pandemic.
The recommendations for Uber’s mobility division include implementing the best recruitment, training, and performance management solutions for new employees. The Uber company’s functioning heavily relies on human resources in a base of drivers. Therefore, implementing better recruitment, training, and performance management techniques can significantly improve the company’s efficiency by reducing turnover rates and increasing the quality of mobility services. Promoting diversity, revising the application processes, and involving employees more in the organization’s culture can increase the employees’ satisfaction with the job.
