Europe was in the condition of physical and economic collapse after World War II. The Marshal Plan was one of the most important documents created after World War II which was directed at the program aimed at Western Europe recovering up to 1951. The main directions of the plan were resuscitation of industry, modernization of agriculture, and assuring financial stability. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and development was created which, in its turn, created NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization). This organization was a good instrument in the Cold War and integrity again Russia.
Apart from political consideration, countries required economical changes. Modernization in the economical sphere, particularly in trade and agriculture created an opportunity to improve the activities of such countries as Italy, Great Britain, Western Germany, and the USA. The countries’ development was rapid as each country wanted to reach the activities it had be4fore the war and even increase those.
This increase was inevitable as the creation of new markets and the implementation of the innovative technologies in the functioning of plants were important aspects. However, the problems remained and in the 1970s Western Europe appeared before the trouble of unemployment. Moreover, inflation was also present (Calvocoressi, 2001). The tense relationships with the USSR and the Cold War affected negatively these processes.
Therefore, even though the economical increase is seen after World War II in Western Europe, unemployment created many problems in the 1970s.
