Dubai Customs is a complex system involving the interaction of many internal departments and external stakeholders. At the same time, the primary function of customs is to ensure fair and legitimate trade conducive to the development of the state economy and society. However, an organization has a responsibility to participate in dozens of different processes to ensure the quality of its work for both employees and customers. As an employee of the Department of External Relations and Communications, I am not directly involved in trade operations and their protection. Nevertheless, I understand that doing my job also contributes to achieving the Dubai Customs’ mission.
During my internship, I have undertaken many assignments contributing to the mission of Dubai Customs in my department. As an employee of the Department of External Relations and Communications, I need to know about the features and benefits of Dubai Customs to determine and understand its needs and inform the public of its achievements. For this reason, one of my activities was to study and present the role of Dubai Customs in society and the state. This assignment helped me get to know the main goals of customs, directions of development, and vision. For example, Dubai Customs is aimed not only at protecting legitimate trade but also at providing high-quality and convenient service to visitors, which requires a diligent and innovative approach.
Furthermore, my other assignment was to prepare and demonstrate a presentation on the achievements of Dubai Customs for 2021. During the preparation process, I collected many facts, data, and information that helped me see the advantages of the customs, as well as some flaws that can be solved by joint efforts of internal and external stakeholders. Therefore, I can use this information to communicate with the public and form communication strategies to work with external parties.
Another task that seemed to be the most relevant for my work was tracking news from foreign customs and information on international issues. This assignment allowed me to evaluate and track changes in the work of customs in other countries and better understand the work of local services. In addition, the information obtained is helpful in providing information to other departments working on the development and improvement of Dubai Customs.
Consequently, the described tasks demonstrate that for Dubai Customs, the awareness and skills of each employee are essential to improve their performance. First, my training reflects the fulfillment of the custom’s objective to create an exceptional employee experience that is based on knowledge and understanding of the company’s values. Second, the experience also targets another purpose of customs, such as offering delightful experiences to company stakeholders of the organization. Moreover, in general, my work in the Department of External Relations and Communication fits into the mission of Dubai Customs. This mission manifests itself in protecting society and the economy through development and innovation, which is facilitated by the constant collection and analysis of information by employees of different departments.
Therefore, my daily activities in the Department of External Relations and Communications of Dubai Customs are useful for fulfilling the company’s mission. Understanding the internal characteristics and achievements of customs improves my communication skills with the public. At the same time, the study of foreign experience allows me to find ways for innovation and development of the service. Thus, even small daily activities improve my skills as an employee and therefore contribute to the organization’s work.
