Importance of Art
Color, form, and space are central to the space of fine art and help express what is felt most clearly. Thanks to art, one can define one’s own comfort zone and way of self-expression. Each of these aspects helps to understand different ways of communicating with the world.
Music Art
Personally, my comfort zone is music. In particular, Caribbean reggae is an exciting art that allows me to feel unique in society. However, sometimes art is a rather complex concept for me to understand.
Being Caribbean and the music of that culture is an integral part of my identity. The rhythm, the crucial words that are spoken in these melodies, have always forced me to understand sounds and develop perception. The peculiarity of this perception is the understanding of how reggae works.
Having studied for a long time how this music is created and which instruments are needed to create melodies, this research opened up a completely new experience for me. In this area, the best example is Bob Marley, who created many wonderful “anthems” that influenced me and the perception of this style (Prestholdt, 2020). His musical style best speaks to Caribbean identity and the fusion of sounds.
Visual Art
Unlike sound art, the field of visual art has a more serious meaning for me. Despite the popularity of visual art, I am not always fascinated by it; instead, I am more surprised. I always have difficulty understanding what meanings artists bring to paintings and how I should perceive them.
The most difficult for me to understand are abstract works, because most often I cannot understand them. The unconventional shapes and colors in the paintings are bold enough, but confusing to me. Traditional visual art, on the other hand, has clear goals and a clear understanding embedded in pictures.
Visiting galleries always leaves me in awe, but more often than not, I am left thinking, and a range of new understandings of art has opened up for me. However, during the visit, she constantly struggled with the perception of chaos in the paintings. The most significant difficulty was understanding the forms and context of avant-garde art (Dragu, 2020). Which often features many figures, many colors, and a chaotic feel, despite the admiration, such art remains difficult to accept.
